Women are freezing in the office — do you know why?

Spoiler: It’s NOT (just) about the dress code 👔👗 (though, let’s be honest, the female cast of Suits would definitely be freezing in those dresses!). Office temperatures are still based on a 1960s model designed around a 40-year-old man in a business suit.

𝐁𝐮𝐭 𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐞’𝐬 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐠: 𝐖𝐨𝐦𝐞𝐧 𝐧𝐞𝐞𝐝 𝐡𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐞𝐫 𝐭𝐞𝐦𝐩𝐞𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐞𝐬 𝐭𝐨 𝐩𝐞𝐫𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐦 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐭𝐡𝐫𝐢𝐯𝐞. Research shows that by sticking to temperatures optimized for men, women are systematically set up to underperform. And this is just one example of how outdated office norms and the traditional 9-5 model no longer serve today’s workforce.

This issue is just the tip of the iceberg. The traditional office setup—rigid temperatures, 9-5 schedules, open plans or cubicles, and lack of flexibility—has long been a barrier to creating workplaces where everyone can thrive (and not just women).

It’s time to 𝐫𝐞𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐤 𝐡𝐨𝐰 𝐰𝐞 𝐝𝐞𝐬𝐢𝐠𝐧 𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐰𝐨𝐫𝐤𝐩𝐥𝐚𝐜𝐞𝐬 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐰𝐨𝐫𝐤𝐝𝐚𝐲𝐬 𝐭𝐨 𝐜𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝐭𝐨 𝐚 𝐝𝐢𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐞 𝐰𝐨𝐫𝐤𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐜𝐞, so all employees feel supported and productive. 💡💬
