Women’s Month at EnviroServ
We asked Linda Van Deemter EnviroServ’s Financial Manager, Business Support…
· What does Women's Day mean to you personally, in the context of your career and experiences?
My reflection on Women’s Day relates to the injustices suffered by women due to reasons beyond their control; be they cultural, religious or economic. I admire the trailblazers that endured hardships to enable me to achieve my dreams.
· How can the industry attract more women and promote gender diversity?
My first passion in life remains economics; and the principle of supply and demand. The latter is applicable in most challenges including this one. The supply of competent, motivated female individuals is endless but to stimulate the demand for entry into our industry, I believe we must showcase our fantastic examples of highly successful men and women.

· Can you highlight any innovative projects or initiatives that stand out for you within EnviroServ?
I have been with this family for 18 years and can list many, but the one project that stands out is the introduction of our intern programme. I have seen young people excited and passionate about our industry. They bring youthful excitement and positive energy to our company with their desire to learn.
· Have you had mentors who have guided you along the way, and how have they influenced your career?
I have had many, but two that come to mind are Rod Kyle, CEO of the previous company I worked for, when I was promoted to my first leadership role. He was very invested in my growth and would constantly motivate me to be my best, teaching that difficult lessons can produce valuable insights and provide growth. The second is Esme Gombault, EnviroServ’s technical director who hired me for my first role with the company despite the fact that I had no waste industry knowledge. She is a kind and genuine leader who inspires those around her to help grow the company through her belief that EnviroServ is a principled company which makes this world a better place to live in.
I would like to close off with a shout-out to my male colleagues at EnviroServ. The greatest compliment ever given to me is that I was treated as an equal due to my knowledge and experience.
