Work in Student Advice? Take a look at our Alkhemy Student Adviser Programme
After a successful trial period, we are super excited to announce the launch of our new Alkhemy Student Adviser Programme. Meet our Alkhemy Advisers
Could you and the SU advice team benefit from an extra pair of hands to keep up with advice centre demands?
We know just how busy student advisers are all year round, so why not take some of the pressure off and respond to student need faster, and more effectively?
Alkhemy has created a brand new Student Adviser Programme to support your advice service by offering advice and guidance capacity either as an additional capacity top-up service, or interim support/cover.
This programme is also ideal if you are looking to build an evidence base for more permanent resources within your advice service offer. They offer support during the working day as well as out of hours and weekend support - because we know that students are not 9 till 5.
Our Alkhemy Student Advisers are trained and experienced student advisers. We're really excited to have them on board with us and they're ready to support you!
Jack Booth-Cole
I have extensive experience in support and guidance roles in the not-for-profit and higher education industries. For the last three years, I was employed as a Student Advocate and Support Officer for the Tasmanian University Student Association (Hobart, Australia). In this role I provided one-on-one support to students who required assistance with a variety of issues, including navigating university procedures, appealing academic decisions and accessing welfare support.
Tecola Smith
I have a wealth of experience working within higher education, focusing on safeguarding, student life, student wellbeing and mentoring. These experiences are the driving force behind my motivation to becoming an advisor as I have been able to see first hand the gaps in support within these environments and how this can truly enhance the student’s experience.

I have previously worked in Students’ Unions and loved the variety of helping students with a range of issues and helping them to achieve their potential. I’m really passionate about higher education and ensuring students have access to the support they need during their studies and beyond. For the past four and half years I have been working with victim-survivors of sexual assault and sexual abuse. Within my role, I work collaboratively with universities and colleges to raise awareness and increase access to this support so have gained lots of expertise in this area.

My name is Jordan and my post-University career has been entirely aimed towards supporting students through their learning journey and I am passionate about seeing students achieve what it is that they want to achieve within education. I am an Advice Coordinator at Robert Gordon University Students’ Association where I have worked for the last three years. As the lead advisor at the association, I have a broad understanding of all areas of advisory support for HE students (Housing, Finance, Welfare, etc.) but I specialise in HE academic and Union and University policy advice and support.

I have a wealth of experience in a student advisory capacity, as a study support adviser and a tutor, supporting students with academic work and challenges, and providing pastoral guidance. I'm an advocate of student centred practice, and strongly believe impartial and unbiased advice is pivotal to representing students not only with curriculum or navigating policy and regulations, but also personal and welfare issues.

I stepped into the world of advice as soon as I graduated from Lancaster University. I initially worked for a charity for a number of years providing advice to the local community on a variety of topics. Following this, I moved on to student advice work. I have worked within Student Unions’ either as an Advisor or as an Advice Service Manager for the last seven years. Alongside being a Trustee for the charity Advice UK, I am also the (NUS) North West lead for Advisors and Caseworkers working within Student Unions.
