Worktops Scratch!!
Worktops scratch, any worktops from any material!
This statement includes Solid Surfaces such as Corian, H Macs, Staron, Hanex….as well as wood, granite, marble, stainless steel, laminate, quartz, engineered stone......no surface is indestructible!
When choosing your work surface don’t be fooled into believing that Solid Surface is much softer than granite and therefore scratches more readily. Yes it is true that granite is a harder product, however, the real beauty here is if you scratch granite that really is it. If you scratch Solid Surface as it’s a repairable material, it can be fixed, within reason, to look as good as new.
It is important to understand and listen to advice when choosing a colour. Although each Solid Surface manufacturers utilise their own production processes, each colour they produce will come through the same manufacturing process – some colours are more suitable for high traffic areas as they are more forgiving than others – the darker colours just show up the marks more easily than other, lighter colours, or those with a lot of particulates, they are not softer than the others. There are care and maintenance guidelines provided by all the leading manufacturers - please click on the links to see the advice offered : CD UK - Corian Care and Maintenance and LG Hi Macs Care and Maintenance.
My kitchen counters are black with a lot of particulates, if you look very closely you may see “skate marks”, not unlike those seen on a dark car. I say if you look very closely because if you just look normally, you would never notice them.
In fact, Solid Surface is like a fine wine, getting better with age if cared for correctly, unlike other surface choices.

6yI agree with you that no surface material is indestructible and also that granite is harder. But granite and any other natural stone surface can be re-polished or re-honed. There are plenty of stone companies that could do this for you. The attraction, for some, of a man-made surface is that every slab can be identical and conform to the designers colour palette whereas we cannot say that about granite or marble. There are pros and cons of both man-made and natural materials.
