The World Bioeconomy Association (WBA) promotes a balanced and holistic approach to the bioeconomy, guided by three core visions that shape our work and strategy.

Our three core visions for the bioeconomy

• Bioresource vision Promoting the efficient use and valorisation of biomass, supporting sustainable production in agriculture, forestry, and marine sectors.
• Biotechnology vision Encouraging the development of bio-based innovations and scaling up of biotechnological solutions.
• Bioecology vision Enhancing ecological processes that protect soil, biodiversity, and natural habitats while promoting regenerative practices.

These three visions form a comprehensive concept of the bioeconomy, ensuring a balanced approach where none is overemphasised. This concept serves as a foundation for building resilience, fostering innovation, and enabling the sustainable use of resources.

📢 Policy advocacy and global influence

The World Bioeconomy Association (WBA) continues to drive global advocacy for a balanced, forward-thinking bioeconomy. Our policy positions shape decision-making, inspire stakeholders, and encourage global leadership in the sector.

1 Strategic approach for the EU Bioeconomy 🇪🇺

The WBA put forth recommendations for coordinated, growth-driven action in the EU to strengthen the bioeconomy sector. This strategy aimed to unlock the full potential of the bioeconomy by aligning European policy with global climate and biodiversity goals. Our guidance focused on promoting financial support, regulatory frameworks, and market incentives to foster growth and sustainability.

As the U.S. prepared for its 2024 elections, the WBA called on candidates to prioritise the bioeconomy in their agendas. Our position paper highlighted the role of bio-based solutions in enhancing resilience, sustainability, and economic growth, underscoring the importance of bioeconomy strategies in future U.S. policymaking.

During Brazil's G20 presidency, the WBA emphasised the critical role of the bioeconomy in addressing climate challenges.
