World Environment Day: Leading The Way To A Better World
The countdown has begun! Two more days to go until we get to celebrate the much-awaited ‘World Environment Day’ on June 05, 2017, an opportunity for all to connect with Nature and pledge their commitment towards Environment Conservation.
World Environment Day (WED) was launched in 1972 by the UN as part of the United Nations Environment Program (UNEP), with an aim to encourage every individual & organizations alike to become agents of change and develop responsible actions to help safeguard the planet.
This year, WED is dedicated to giving global citizens a chance to break the pattern of their daily grind and connect with Nature; to get outdoors to appreciate its beauty and its importance, to take forward the call to protect our planet Earth. Protected areas like national parks, nature reserves and marine sanctuaries will be the focus during this year's World Environment Day with official global celebrations being hosted by Canada.
World Environment Day Celebrations at Reliance Energy
By celebrating World Environment Day, we remind ourselves and others of the importance of caring for our environment and showing our support towards a Greener Planet.
As a responsible corporate citizen, Reliance Energy, Mumbai’s largest power distribution company and its employees team up with local partners to carry out energy efficiency and natural resource conservation initiatives, as well as implementing sustainable actions to improve the living conditions of communities, in and around its locations of operation.
This year, on the occasion of World Environment Day, Reliance Energy is setting up a kiosk at Oberoi Mall to educate customers/visitors on the importance of Energy & Environment Conservation, and all the Digital Services offered by the company. The kiosk will be active from 12:00 noon, 3rd June to 8:00 pm, 5th June.
Reliance Energy is also sponsoring the entry for visitors at Sanjay Gandhi National Park (SGNP) on 5th June 2017 and organised a Nature/wildlife photography contest, in support of UN Environment and Reliance Infrastructure's theme of "Connect with Nature". The initiative is aimed at encouraging Mumbaikars to engage with the exotic natural world of Sanjay Gandhi National Park (SGNP).
Over the past 3 years, in association with Sanjay Gandhi National Park (SGNP), the company organized various environmental campaigns like collection of plastic waste, conducting street plays to sensitize visitors at SGNP. Reliance Energy's volunteers invested more than 800 man-hours to get rid of over 700 kg of plastic and solid waste from tourist spots.
YES Energy Saving Program
Economic and social progression cannot be dissociated from environmental conservation.
This realization needs to be seeded in our next generation, early on, so that they grow up to be smart users of energy and adopt the right practices to help conserve the environment. With this mission, Reliance Energy launched its YES program in 2009 as a vehicle towards improving the actions of today’s children and making them responsible for a better tomorrow.
In today’s world, notifications from social media, from chats and selfie-apps hold a lot more importance than the distressing call for help from our planet. So, this Environment Day, YES came up a novel concept of Notifications From Nature to reach out to users right where they take notice: phones, tabs, desktop, thus leveraging the pervading effect of social media. If you truly care about nature, say YES to #NotificationsFromNature.
On Monday, 5th of June, let's all come together and show our commitment and support towards a Greener Planet.
