Wrapping Up 2024

Wrapping Up 2024

It’s time to wrap up for the year! Thank you for your loyal readership and I hope you’ve enjoyed the newsletter this year. I’ve always been conscious of writing to make you feel included as a reader, rather than a structured ramble of “look what I’ve done.”

I initially thought December would be quiet ahead of Christmas, but I’ve had enquiries leading right up to the day I decided to finsh.

It’s been a rollercoaster of a year – both ups and downs as I have navigated being the master of my destiny. This would not have been possible without my father supporting in the corner, and worthy mentions to Adam Owen , Paul Taylor , Guy Skinner , Ian Dempsey DipPFS , Dominic Chapman , Paul Armson 🤩 Rebel with a cause 🤩 , Ruth Downs BA (Hons) DipPFS , Craig Palfrey , Michael Yuille CFP™ , Andy Taylor

Arnold Schwarzenegger said once “I’m not a self-made man, I have had a lot of help”. The journey in business is tough. Surround yourself with a tribe. Call them mentors if you wish. Reach out and ask. You’d be surprised to see how willing people are to help.

Jack Frimston continues to remind us all “remember you will die” in a positive effort to encourage picking up the bloody phone to call leads and make that all-important sale. Although cold calling is not allowed for certain industries it’s fascinating to watch Benjamin D. on his Linkedin Live Show where people join in and is critiqued live on air whilst making phone calls.

Alongside the “day job” and building a client bank comprising of a tremendous amount of phone calls, emails and of course in person meetings, clients have been onboarded. I continue refining my approach to deliver a first-class service in every interaction.

I’ve attended some helpful courses and completed qualifications which I can recommend:

-            MOE Foundation – Certified Coach – Felicity Rose Sunderland Hall

-            Verve Incubator – for advisers going out on their own. Contact Hayley Rabbets

-            CTT Countrywide Estate planning course

-            Passed AF7 – Pension Transfers Advanced Exam

Fun events:

-            The first ever TRAP live: Alan Smith Andy Hart - Financial Adviser , Nick Lincoln Carl Widger

I finally had the opportunity to meet Keith Butten CFPcm in person at TRAP live. I have a lot of gratitude for him for supporting the initiative I led in lockdown. He kindly accepted my invitation to conduct a candid two part webinar. One around financial planning for those entering the profession. One focused on how to pass the CFP. As such, it was great to meet in person.

-            Elements by NextGen Planners , Amelia Hamilton , Dan Graham , Adam Owen

-            PMX Roundtable: Ben Peele

-            Financial Planning Two Part Masterclass - Keith Butten CFPcm

Been a part of or read discussions on:

-            Lifetalk on Facebook by Philip Calvert

-            Weekly post “neronuggets” by Phil Bray 💡The Financial Services Marketing Guy💡

-            IFA Forum - Nick Lincoln

-            Verve Incubator chat - Hayley Rabbets

Made new connections through Business Buzz Oxfordshire and continue to be an ambassador for Oxford Buzz supporting host Roy Magara

Thanks to Richard Lodge organising the first ever Finvet event in London. Service leavers and veterans in financial services supporting each other!

We all have people we look up to, I have a list of people I’d like to meet. In December I had the opportunity to meet Mr Peter Rosengard himself. I heard stories about him whilst going through my qualifications at the Openwork Academy. Being able to meet him in person was really an experience! Thanks Setul Mehta for making this happen.

I’ve noticed a Linkedin Rewind trend, jumping on the bandwagon and here is the stats:

It wouldn’t be a Christmas newsletter without fishing out “deals” out there. Having previously worked with Michaela Pashley I saw an offer email and include the details below:

A while back now, Woodford dominated the financial press headlines. I found this link on my Linkedin news feed: Neil Woodford breaks his silence:

Thank you for the mention Benjamin Beck The FAM group that you created has helped many ‘early stagers’. In 2024 it was great to catch up with a good number of them. With no small amount of credit to you, many are well informed and on good pathways. In 2025, I hope you can ensure that your pathway is working for you, that’s the very least you deserve. Have a great Festive Break…..
