❤️ YESTERDAY WAS CELEBRATION DAY ❤️

IN MEMORY OF HETTY AND ELKAN MOSCOW

The last bank holiday, Monday in May, has been designated as Celebration Day - a significant initiative, according to the organisers, to prompt individuals to reflect on their departed loved ones.

Sir Anthony Seldon is an Educator and historian who campaigns for Celebration Day. He believes that this day, apart from Remembrance Sunday, when we remember those who have fallen in combat, offers an opportunity to think of those we have lost and the impact they have had on our lives.

𝗜𝘁 𝗶𝘀 𝗻𝗲𝗰𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗮𝗿𝘆 𝗯𝗲𝗰𝗮𝘂𝘀𝗲 𝗼𝗳𝘁𝗲𝗻 𝘄𝗲 𝗳𝗶𝗻𝗱 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝗵𝗮𝗿𝗱 𝘁𝗼 𝗱𝗼.

We can be afraid and worried that it will make us sad. But as he says, ‘I miss my wife more when I don’t think about her than when I do’.

It gives me time to reflect on my mother and father and their impact on my life.

My dad died when he was only 45, at a time when statins hadn't been invented, stents were not being used, and open-heart surgery was in its infancy. I was just 10 when he passed.

We were left in financial difficulty, and my mother had to step into the role of both parents. She had a wicked sense of humour and helped her two boys have fun even in the most challenging situations.

Her abiding advice was to follow our hearts.

I have often reflected on how the aspirations of our parents reflect on us.

A song by Mike and The Mechanics, The Living Years, has lyrics that are true of me.

𝙄 𝙠𝙣𝙤𝙬 𝙩𝙝𝙖𝙩 𝙄'𝙢 𝙖 𝙥𝙧𝙞𝙨𝙤𝙣𝙚𝙧.

𝙏𝙤 𝙖𝙡𝙡 𝙢𝙮 𝙛𝙖𝙩𝙝𝙚𝙧 𝙝𝙚𝙡𝙙 𝙨𝙤 𝙙𝙚𝙖𝙧

𝙄 𝙠𝙣𝙤𝙬 𝙩𝙝𝙖𝙩 𝙄'𝙢 𝙖 𝙝𝙤𝙨𝙩𝙖𝙜𝙚.

𝙏𝙤 𝙖𝙡𝙡 𝙝𝙞𝙨 𝙝𝙤𝙥𝙚𝙨 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙛𝙚𝙖𝙧𝙨.

My Dad had wanted to be a Copywriter, but the war intervened and frustrated this dream.

My first career was in advertising; now I am a published author.

Because he died when I was so young, he never got to see me grow up, meet my wife and be a grandfather to my twin sons.

This had such an effect on me that I did everything possible to be there for my twin sons, and now that I have grandkids, I will be there for them.

These early experiences and their impact on my life are why I wrote my book 𝗔 𝗩𝗼𝘆𝗮𝗴𝗲 𝗪𝗶𝘁𝗵𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝗠𝘆 𝗙𝗮𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿: to help others move from Grief to Growth to Gratitude.

📚Write the book of your life, not for yourself, but for those who come after you. 📚
