You are not Alone
Running your own company can be a lonely place.
I should know – I’ve been running one for 20 years.
All the decisions I have had to make over this time are ones that you are facing right now, in your business:
· How do I find the right people?
· How do I get rid of the wrong people – legally and quickly?
· How can I protect my cash flow?
· How do I grow my business?
· How can I expand my market?
· What do I need to do first when a crisis hits?
· Which professionals should I use?
The list is endless and, as a business owner, you - like myself - will have spent a lot of time and energy trying to answer these questions. And the time and energy you invest is exponentially increased when you’re facing them for the first time.
Let’s be honest: you have made mistakes, and so have I - loads of them, in fact more than I care to think of.
We both know that it’s one of the only ways you can really find out what works and what doesn’t. But you can only learn (and more importantly apply that learning) from them if you can look at your mistakes constructively, analyse them so you know what not to do next time, and then move on.
And sometimes this is very difficult…
It’s the wood for the trees syndrome. Things that are glaringly obvious to an outside observer are not at all clear for you, as a company owner – and even if you can see them, it can feel like it takes forever for you to work out how to address them and move on.
So how would it feel if you could belong to a group that could help you avoid most of those mistakes; that could steer you towards making the right decisions; constructively question your thoughts and your business processes; and keep you accountable so that you follow through on the actions you decide to take.
A group made up of experienced business owners like yourself, all working in the same industry as you, but not your competitors. A small team of trusted advisors who need and will value your help to solve their problems, as much as you need and will value their advice and support as you grow your business.
In short, The Board of Peers
The Board of Peers is made up of people just like you, meeting online once a month as a group, and supported by an online one-to-one session with me as your Mentor, to help you and your business remove any barriers to growth.
Each Board has trust, honesty and transparency at its core, and therefore we 100% guarantee that there will never be any of your competitors in your Board.
There is only one seat for each trade on every Board – and no Board will ever be bigger than 8 businesses.
Is the Board of Peers Right for Me?
Membership of this Board is not the right solution for every business owner – and we need to be absolutely certain that the decision to join is the right one for you, and for the Board as a whole.
So we firstly need to look at the match between your personal values and ethos, and those of the Board. We only let in people who are:
· Optimistic and positive – your glass is half full, and refillable
· Happy to not only advise others, but also receive advice
· Committed to growing your company
· Prepared to be open and honest – both with yourself and with your fellow Board members
· 100% trustworthy – you’ll hear a lot of confidential and personal stuff, and you need to be able to keep these confidences
The second set of criteria is your business size:
· Your turnover is over £250,000 plus or you are committed to getting there
· You employ at least 5 people, either freelance or directly
What’s in it for you?
Decades of research show that members of a group like the Board of Peers grow their businesses between 2.5 and 4 times quicker than their competitors.
I know you’re thinking: “That sounds impressive, but how does that happen?” Well, by joining the Board of Peers, you will…
· Become more focused and be under less stress than you have been for years
· Save time, sweat and tears on your decision-making process - and make better decisions as well
· Be part of a group of trusted advisors, who will not only always have your back, but hold you accountable for the actions you decide to take
· Improve your business processes, running a more efficient and effective company
· Gain an insight into how to build the right team that will help you take your business forward
· Feel in control of the whole process
And as if that isn’t enough, you will also get tailored 1 to 1 advice and support from me, for one hour every month. This also not only gives you access to my 30 years’ worth of experience and hard graft in the industry (my “secret sauce”), and my network of contacts, but you will also benefit from my perspective of being a client just like yours. Together, we will work to improve your processes, organisation and product, so you can better meet their needs.
I can honestly say that I wish I’d been part of such a group when I was running my family’s building company – it would have saved me so much time, stress and heartache. It’s the reason that I’m a member of a broad-based business mastermind group now. They help me make better decisions, keep my saw sharp, and add new tools to my business leadership toolbox.
What’s your commitment?
The biggest investment you’ll make will be your time – you must commit to attending both the group meetings and the 1-2-1 sessions with me. Dipping in and out won’t work – not for you, not for me, and not for the group who will be depending on your perspective and input to the problem solving we do.
But it’s not a heavy commitment: around 6 hours a month, over two sessions, with no travel times, no need to find parking, and no time wasted. All done from the comfort of your own office space, over the magic of Zoom.
There is of course, a financial cost. If I won the lottery, I’d do this for free because I’m so convinced of the power of the Board of Peers to help you grow your business – but I haven’t, so there will be a financial investment to join a Board of Peers.
Oh, and we don’t tie you into a contract – you can leave at any time giving only one month’s notice.
Membership is not a luxury item: you’re actually investing in yourself, your ability to lead and grow your business, and your future profits. Think how much you spend on marketing or getting new contracts over the year; on your website; on legal advice; on training your staff and ensuring they have the skills you need to grow your business.
So why put yourself last? Your skills need developing every bit as much as theirs – just differently…
You can, of course, continue to go it alone. Feeling like you’re trying to find a path through those woods without a flashlight. Making mistakes that others have already made, and learned from, whilst not necessarily learning from your own.
But if you weigh up the costs and consequences of one bad decision, one mistake that you might not have made if you’d been part of the Board of Peers, then both the time and financial investment are peanuts in comparison.
The number of Boards is finite – so can you afford to miss out on this opportunity to grow your business and your leadership skills?
What to do next?
I believe you should have an opportunity to try before you buy so you can either:

It’s entirely your call: you can keep banging your head on a brick wall, alone, and frustrated, or you can take the first step to sustainably growing your business.
Which is it going to be?
And don’t forget – places on the Board of Peers are extremely limited: only 8 businesses can be in each Board
You owe it to yourself, your team, your clients and your family
This is what others have said about being a member of a Peer to Peer Group
“As someone who had avoided joining a mastermind or peer to peer group for a number of years I am now 100% converted. I didn’t see the value, as I had a fantastic peer group and an exceptional board however I have since been proven very wrong.
I am able to bring to the mastermind group challenges and opportunities that I couldn’t discuss with my team, my peer group or my board for varying reasons. The mastermind group quickly helped me overcome any issues as well as develop plans to mitigate these, but as importantly develop strategies to quickly capitalise on and maximise any opportunities.
I receive honest open and pragmatic feedback, and am held to account, as well as support, guidance, significant skill sets and expertise as well as different perspectives based on the diverse experiences of the group. The time I spend with my mastermind colleagues is the most valuable I spend in my working life; as a busy entrepreneur getting to the root cause of something and developing plans quickly never mind all the added value makes my mastermind group the best investment I have made for myself and my business. “
Kate Cooper-Fay – CEO CXY
“For the past four years, I’ve been part of a Peer to Peer group, where I meet regularly with other business leaders. We share the issues we face in our businesses and help each other to solve them. Often these are issues that it’s impossible to share with neither our work colleagues/Boss/Board or with our close friends outside of work. Your boss or board are often too close to the problem (or are the problem!) You can’t share with your friends because they simply don’t know enough about your work technicalities to be able to offer the right wisdom.
Therefore there’s real value in processing your decisions and plans with trusted peers. I’ve loved being part of a group that mentors me. Often it just gives me the confidence to do what I’m minded to do, but it also helps me spot if my plan is dumb!”
