Are you blocking transformation by refusing to lean into tension?
Change, the very essence of progress, often begins with tension. Just as a butterfly struggles within its cocoon to emerge, or a seedling pushes through the soil, we too must confront the discomfort of pushing against the familiar to embrace the new.
Reflecting on my own journey, I realize that some of the most significant changes in my life stemmed from tension—that feeling of unease or frustration with the status quo. It's this tension that serves as the catalyst for transformation, propelling us towards something different, something better.

For me, change isn't just a notion; it's a driving force. Whether it's building a transformation plan for a healthcare system or reorganizing the kitchen drawers, I find solace in the pursuit of improvement, in the belief that even the smallest change can lead to a better tomorrow.
Yet, change isn't always easy. It often demands resilience and determination as we navigate obstacles and uncertainties. But it's this very tension that fortifies our resolve, strengthening our commitment to forge ahead despite the challenges.

As we embark on this journey of change, let us not be swayed by the allure of superficial rewards or fleeting titles. Instead, let us focus on the destination—the feelings we want to evoke, the lives we want to touch—and proceed with intentionality and purpose.
Navigating the Tension to Achieve Transformation
How can we embrace change in our own lives? Here are five steps to help navigate the tension and embark on a journey of transformation:
1. Acknowledge the Tension: The first step towards change is recognizing the tension within ourselves. Take the time to reflect on areas of your life where you feel dissatisfied or stagnant. What frustrations or challenges are holding you back? Acknowledging these feelings is the first step towards initiating meaningful change.
2. Define Your Vision: Once you've identified the tension, take a moment to envision your ideal future. What does success look like to you? What feelings do you want to cultivate? Define your vision with clarity and specificity, setting concrete goals that align with your values and aspirations.

3. Take Incremental Steps: Change doesn't happen overnight; it's a gradual process that requires patience and perseverance. Break down your goals into smaller, manageable steps, and commit to taking consistent action towards them. Celebrate each milestone along the way, recognizing the progress you've made.
4. Embrace Discomfort: Growth often occurs outside of our comfort zones. Embrace the discomfort that comes with change, viewing it as an opportunity for personal development and learning. Lean into challenges with courage and resilience, trusting in your ability to adapt and overcome obstacles.
5. Cultivate Resilience: Change is rarely linear and setbacks are inevitable. Cultivate resilience by maintaining a positive mindset and learning from failures and setbacks. Practice self-compassion and kindness towards yourself, recognizing that setbacks are an inherent part of the change process.
As we step into the year ahead, let's embrace the tension, knowing that it is the very force that will propel us towards our dreams and allow us to soar to new heights.
