Home Runs
Yesterday’s home runs don’t win today’s games.” – Babe Ruth
There is a lot of truth in that statement in regards to business along with people coming into our lives for a “Reason a Season and a Lifetime". Life has a way of wasting nothing, teaching you everything and the lessons are priceless.
I was thinking today about something someone said to me yesterday; they said “I admire your steel, your ability to say no to something and be completely unwavering”.
That’s because I know my values and I know when a person has crossed a line one too many times, mixed with a deep faith in Life itself and a healthy respect based on past experience, that everything happens for a reason.
We are all mastering something, every person you pass is either dealing with, just got over or are struggling with………. that’s the magic of Life.
And Life is Magical.
My current focus is improving my ability to control my response, when I turn my attention to something I want to improve about myself I do it because I understand the longer “cause and effect” that gives me instant motivation.
Whether it’s in a fraught business meeting, an argument with sibling, your co-founder or a response to a partner; The space between the stop and start in communication, is so powerful.
The simple discipline of silence till you have determined the outcome or your response is remarkable. (And silence is also a response btw.)
It cauterises that emotional knee jerk reaction, and allows that blessed space to be objective calm, focused.
Why the effort? Most people are experts at predicting outcomes, this mental gymnastics, is a response to a need to be in control. Yet they are out of control in that moment, they hold the belief they are the captain of their ship, destined to ship wreck, unless they micro control everything around them. It’s a mere illusion.
Why does it take so many years for us to learn the important lessons or just gain a knowledge bank that allows ease of reference?
Because that’s the contradiction: when you realise how little we really know, how much there is to learn, we become teachable, opening the Mighty door of HUMILITY.

The return to Innocence is a Powerful State its mother is Humility.
And this is what I really want to talk about: The Power of Innocence.
We all start at the same point: childhood, which flashes by, and off we whizz into adulthood we go.
The shortest period of our life is possibly the most important as a barometer for future happiness, but, it’s the innocence I’m interested in.
Innocence holds light, you can see it in the face of an innocent person. It is different from naïve, naïve is almost unfortunate, but Innocence is a gift.
In an innocent state of mind, it’s almost impossible to feel anxious, depressed certainly not, negative. Why? because inside Innocence lies Magic, Awe, and Wonder like a beautiful garden for the mind.
No weeds grow there.
It’s like when they say cancer cannot exist in an alkaline body, well the same goes for your mind. You can become sick if it's corrosive as an acid with thought, but the effect that has on your Spirit, the place all Lightness of Being resides, is devastating.
We build companies, build careers, and build profiles for ourselves, yet we do not build ourselves alongside every brick, step or motion we expend.
So, I’m removing the rubbish this week, if your American I’m removing the trash, and I will continue to remove, add, observe, wait and do, for the rest of my life because the rewards are remarkable.
I coined it an Emotional, Mental and Spiritual MOT and I’ve been doing it for decades. The buck begins and ends with myself.
