Are You a Goal Getter? - A New Perspective for Leaders and Experts

As leaders and experts in your fields, setting goals is more than a task – it's an art and a science. It's about crafting a vision that not only drives you but also ignites the passion and commitment of your team. Let’s dive into how you can set goals that resonate, challenge, and inspire.

  • ✍️ Inclusive Goal Setting: Don't set goals in a silo. Involve your team. When they contribute ideas, they invest emotionally and intellectually. It's a collective journey – everyone should feel like a co-author of the team's destiny.
  • ✍️ Regular Check-Ins: Goals aren’t set in stone. They're dynamic. Regularly revisit them with your team. Are these goals still relevant? What progress has been made? This practice keeps the goals alive and adaptable.

Now, let's rethink some traditional goal-setting concepts:

  • 🗣 Ownership vs. Excitement: It’s not just about having your team own the goals but also feeling excited about them. If a goal doesn't spark enthusiasm, workshop it. Find that element that turns a ‘must-do’ into a ‘can’t-wait-to-do’.
  • 🗣Challenge Brings Innovation: Easy goals don't inspire greatness. Set goals that push boundaries. The challenge fosters creativity, teamwork, and a sense of accomplishment that easy targets can't match.
  • 🗣Clarity is Key: Vague goals are the root of confusion. Be crystal clear. What are we aiming for? How will we know we've arrived? Clarity drives focused action.

  • Expanding on the S.M.A.R.T. framework, let's explore how 'Exciting' and 'Recordable' add value:
  • S - Specific: Detail-oriented and clear.
  • M - Measurable: Quantifiable outcomes.
  • A - Achievable: Realistically attainable.
  • R - Relevant: Aligned with broader objectives.
  • T - Time-Bound: Defined start and end dates.
  • E - Exciting: Engaging and motivating.
  • R - Recordable: Easily documented and tracked for progress.

For instance, a reimagined S.M.A.R.T.E.R. goal for a thought leader might be:

"Within two months, increase blog traffic by 400 unique visitors by publishing four engaging posts per week (up from two), with each post containing an expanded word count of 1,600 words. This goal will be tracked weekly and adjusted to maintain excitement and relevance."

And remember, the journey of achieving these goals is as important as the goals themselves. To further explore and share insights on effective goal-setting strategies, I invite you to join my upcoming events, where we delve deeper into making goals not just smart but smarter.
