You are just a recruiter??

You are just a recruiter??

While encountering diverse personalities in the workplace is common, navigating encounters with a arrogant team members can be an interesting experience. One such encounter, where an ex-colleague dismissively stated, "But you are just a recruiter?" serves as a reminder of the various misconceptions and underestimations that individuals in recruitment often face.

The phrase "just a recruiter" might seem harmless to some, but it captures a widespread misconception about the role. It insinuates that a recruiter's responsibilities and contributions are minimal or insignificant. However, the reality is vastly different…. That is, if you are a professional and authentic recruiter...

Recruiters play a pivotal role in bridging the gap between hiring companies and prospective employees. Their work extends beyond mere CV screening - at least for the majority of them.

If you are a “professional and authentic” Recruiter, then you act as brand ambassadors, understanding both the company's ethos and the candidates' aspirations to forge meaningful connections. Recruiters evaluate not only qualifications and experience, but also assess soft skills, cultural fit, and potential contributions. They are architects of the first impression, guiding candidates through the application process, ensuring a positive experience.

If your current recruitment partner is not doing all of this, then you need to make a change…

Yes, I agree, there are many recruiters out there that give the industry a bad name – they are all about quantity of applicants and hitting targets, rather than doing the actual job at hand, which is dealing with a delicate and unpredictable product called a Human being (both sides of course, candidates and hiring managers).

An authentic recruiter's impact will be far-reaching. A successful recruitment process influences the company's success, shaping its culture, productivity, and overall performance. They are instrumental in shaping teams and contributing to the company's growth trajectory.

Yet, the dismissive attitude toward recruiters persists due to misconceptions surrounding the job. It reflects a narrow-minded view that undermines the complexities and importance of the role. This attitude disregards the expertise, effort, and insight required to excel in recruitment.

Well – I am a RECRUITER, and I am PROUD of what I do. I am driven by my passion for connecting talent with opportunities, my resilience in facing challenges, and my commitment to making a meaningful impact on individuals' lives and company's success. And, the greatest reward is to work with companies and individuals that understand and appreciate the work we do.

A reminder to some people out there, that every role, regardless of perception, level, status etc, contributes uniquely to the organisational ecosystem. Authentic Recruiters, like other professionals, deserve acknowledgment and respect for their multifaceted contributions to building successful teams and companies.

Perhaps, next time, try being a recruiter for just one day, instead of making condescending comments...

Proud to be in the profession that shapes the future of work!
