Are you ready for the winter?

Are you ready for the winter?

The countdown to Christmas is on! We're in the final month where the stressful urgency of getting the right presents, preparing for the social melee of relatives, worrying over whether the turkey is moist enough and generally freaking out over what is supposedly a "most wonderful time of the year" is our main focus.

And for business owners and site managers, that headache is multiplied by ensuring that during a hectic period, your business remains operational with minimal interruption. For Arrow, the busiest time of the year is over the winter period, as our emergency call-out teams are attending sites all over the country, making sure sites are secure, safe and operational.

But here's the reality...a lot of these call-outs could be avoided with a simple maintenance plan in place to look after your industrial doors and associated assets. A little TLC at the right times, avoids costly downtime in the future and reduces the chances of needing emergency intervention.

We have hundreds of customers, dotted around the UK, who take advantage of the Arrow Pre-Planned Maintenance programmes we can offer and these measures have helped them beat the usual pitfalls of poorly maintained doors. And never have these programmes been more important to our customers than when the weather gets colder, the snow starts to fall and the ice starts to form.

We also offer one-off inspections and services which can help identify and more importantly, fix, any issues that may affect the integrity of your industrial doors as the cold weather does its best to interrupt your business. And we're experts in all manner of industrial doors, from roller shutters to sectionals, high speed to fire doors, folding sliding doors to LPS1175 shutters and much more. Whatever your asset, whatever the make, we're the team you can trust.

Being winter ready is a smart business decision!

There are also some things that you can do yourself to help look after your doors during this period and we've created a winter check list that helps you identify the key areas that can become affected and how to remedy them.

  • Inspect for damage, dents, or rust - these could undermine door integrity over time .
  • Make sure brackets and bolts are tight - loose fittings can lead to unwanted wobble and wear.
  • Test the balance and lift of your door - it shouldn't drift up or down when partially open .
  • Check the weather seals - replace them if they're cracked or missing to improve insulation .
  • Confirm the functionality of safety devices - photo eyes and bottom edges should halt or reverse the door.
  • Ensure warning labels are present and easy to read - poor legibility can lead to misuse and accidents .
  • Test the emergency release - doors should be able to open and close manually if activated .
  • Don't forget to check if the annual service date is imminent - regular maintenance is a ticket to door longevity!
  • Remove ice and snow from around the door and its components - If not cleared, this can strain the opening mechanism or cause misalignment.

These simple checks can help you recognise areas of concern and if you do see issues, don't waste time on getting them rectified. Call your local Arrow branch immediately to book a service and have your doors in tip top condition, ready for the harsh weather that's coming. Avoid the chances of having to pay for an emergency call-out, avoid the possibility of costly downtime, avoid the inevitable security risk of having non-functioning doors and of huge importance, avoid any possible risk to your staff and the general public.

Our team are on hand today to give you the support and the peace of mind you need, wherever you are in the UK and whenever you need us.
