Are You Speeding Toward Your Own Misery?
Yesterday, while driving home, I was in the inside lane, and there was a car driving beside me in the curb lane.
We stayed side by side for about a kilometer, both staying pretty consistent in our speed.
Up ahead, I saw a car getting ready to pull out onto the road.
They had time to pull out, but with snow and all, I'd say the window was a bit shorter than maybe most are comfortable with.
Typically, I wouldn't think anything of it.
But suddenly, the car beside me, which had been driving nice and easy beside me and without changing speeds, steps on the gas and races forward towards the car trying to pull out.
He obviously then had to brake, to avoid hitting the person, and starts blaring his horn and waving a lot.
With one finger.
This is when I realized something really important...
Many of us are accelerating into our own misery. We are speeding to anger.
This guy knew that sure maybe the person pulling out was a bit close, but they would have been fine really had he just minded his own business..
But he aggravated the situation by then accelerating, and making it even worse, making it into something.
It breaks my heart that so many go through life with such a lack of meaning and purpose that they need to, quite frankly, make a scene to get a feel of importance, of self worth, of power and significance.
Listen, if there's one thing you can give yourself this new year, let it be permission.
Permission to feel and be loved.
Permission to be happy.
Permission to feel important.
Permission to go after your dreams.
Permission to set big goals.
Permission to let go of the anger you're carrying.
Permission to be meaningful.
Permission to love others without reservation.
Permission to feel incredible for no reason.
Permission to love yourself.
Life is too short to feel anything but great.
Is life hard sometimes? Yes it is. In fact, life will beat you down if you let it.
But right now, you need to get out of your own way, you need to stop accelerating towards self destruction, and start giving yourself permission to matter.
Today, put down the hate, and be somebody.
