Are You Watching Ether(ETH)?

The new Cryptocurrency "Ether" from Ethereum today grew to over $10 per Ether...  If you are not watching this amazing cryptocurrency birthing event, you should. The currency behind the Ethereum platform is up 1,090% in the past 3 months, and 300% in the past 30 days.

This is happening very fast.  I participated in the Ethereum funding when they were raising money selling Ether before the Genesis block had even started.  Back then you could buy thousands of Ether for next to nothing.  Today the value passed $10/Ether, and the market cap is over $800M, more than all the other crypto currencies besides bitcoin.

This may be due to the fact the Etherem platform is the next generation - focused on more than just currency.  Etherem is focused on enabling smart contracts which uses an open blockchain ledger and promises to deliver more business applications as a result.  It also may be due to the fact Bitcoin had a grand mal seizure yesterday, stranding millions of transactions, and calling into question the viability of a global system that could only process SEVEN TRANSACTIONS A SECOND...

Ethereum claims to be perhaps a little faster, and more flexible than Bitcoin, but the blockchain approach  is still very slow compared to dedicated systems like VISA that can process up to 56,000 transactions per second.  So we are seeing technology racing to try to keep up with the concept of these new currencies.

Finally, due to the distributed nature, when you transfer Ether, or really any cryptocurrency to another account, even yours, if you mis-type the address your money will simply vanish. Someone else in the world may notice a new deposit but have no idea where it came from.  Makes transferring money in the cyber world kind of scary..

What's next?  Should you buy some Ether before it runs up to $100 or $1000 per unit, or will this whole thing blow over?

Could someone tell me the value of Ether? Could you actually use it like a currency? From the information available from the Ethereum project, it has similar shortcomings as the Bitcoin network and was meant as a smart contracts platform rather than a trading platform like Bitcoin. Ethereum is riding high on speculation at this point with no clear benefits over Bitcoin.

Why would ETH keep increasing in value isn't it just another altcoin ? Also I bought BTC at 200 , should I keep holding them or is BTC dead already ?
