YOU WON’T BELIEVE WHAT I SAID TO A RADIO SHOW

As a leader, mentor, spouse, parent, coworker, friend or even a coach there are some things you can’t say to someone… today. Let’s dive into this week’s Beyond The 615 Column, article # 170.

HERE’S WHAT I SAID

I want to celebrate your growth. When we started over a year ago your delivery felt a little over the top, like a caricature of yourself. Today, you feel real, personable, conversational, and believable.”

I wanted so badly to share those thoughts when we first started coaching sessions because I saw their potential. But I knew that my words wouldn’t be helpful or received.

This person had grown leaps and bounds over the course of a year. My honesty today wasn’t offensive because they felt the growth too. They put in the hard work. They knew they were better.

HERE’S THE TAKEAWAY

Sometimes the words you want to say need a little time to go by for others… and for you. So, in the meantime be patient and allow the relationship to grow and develop. Honesty without trust usually backfires.
