Your actions will always tell the truth
Your words may be saying anything to anyone but it is your actions which determine whether you are saying the truth or not. It is because we can always make false statements by accident, because we made a mistake about some reality. However, telling a lie is when we make try to describe reality or something close to it in an inaccurate way on purpose.
The knowledge of reality is generally a good thing to have, so if there’s no significant reason to lie, it’s obvious that you should tell the truth, and not lie. Also in many cases, you may give people a different truth than what they asked for, or not give them all the truth they asked for. That is, you can 'sugarcoat' telling people things which you don’t want to say directly. So a lot of the time you can avoid lying. But there are times when you will need to chose between showing a truth which you don’t want to, and lying.
And should we always tell the truth? To know this answer first let us find out how important is the truth to you? And if the truth is not important to you, there are some things you should know. Some time even the police may use the 'lie detector test' to know whether you are telling the truth, but it also happens that the lie was not detected even by the machine. But I have never heard of someone telling lies about themselves and passing a polygraph it is not easy unless they had practiced the lies so much that they believed them.
Imagine you are standing in a Y road junction. Suddenly a person runs by you with fear in the face and goes into right-wing of the junction, and a few seconds later another person with a weapon in hand furiously comes to you and asks you to tell him that in which way the first person went. Now assume that you were requested by the earlier person not to tell the following person him about the way he is going.
You are in a fix now what to tell him since the person is carrying a weapon with him and might even hurt the earlier person if you tell his whereabouts. In such case it is up to our conscience what should we tell him lies that you do not know where he went to save the person or may just say he went that way. But it is always said that telling hundred lies to save a person's life is acceptable than telling one truth which might kill a person.
If telling the truth will cause the death of an innocent human being. If telling the truth will cause severe injury or irreparable damage to an innocent human being. If telling the truth will cause unnecessary suffering to anyone who has already suffered enough because of the related circumstances. If telling the truth will serve no purpose for future good or value as lessons learned.
There are many moments in my past where I was confronted with this difficult decision. I'm sorry to say the choices I’ve made were not always the best possible for all concerned, so I have learned that, not only do you not have the wisdom to make this decision for everyone who could be affected by the outcome. You have no moral right to remove this responsibility from those who should step up and relay the truth as they know it to be.
