Your Level of Engagement Can Be Measured By How Much You Miss

Your Level of Engagement Can Be Measured By How Much You Miss

Have you ever felt disconnected or unmotivated at work?

It happens to all of us, and it’s a natural part of our work lives. It’s impossible to play “full out” daily when so many things happen.

Now, I’m not saying you have permission to slack, but giving yourself a little grace and understanding about everything you have going on is okay. It may be why you aren’t having the most productive day. You’ll be evaluated and measured by the totality of your experiences. Your level of engagement at work may not be the best today, but don’t let it be sub-par tomorrow.

In his book Atomic Habits, James Clear offers a simple philosophy to combat all-or-nothing thinking.

“Never Miss Twice.”

This has helped me quite a bit with things I’m dealing with, and I’ll admit that I’m not great at it all the time, but it has substantially changed my outlook.

I offer this here on March 1 because the new year has worn off, and you may be relinquishing back to old habits. You may have had your performance review and feel disenfranchised or frustrated about how that went. You may be on a fast track to promotion and worried that you must be “perfect” to get that new job you desire.

If you are in a leadership role, how well do you communicate your boundaries or ground rules about the expectations you have for your team?

How consistently do you SHOW UP for your team?

If you have remote team members, how frequently do you check in or stay engaged with them?

Keeping employees engaged in a remote or virtual working environment is more critical than ever. As more companies struggle with what returning to the worksite looks like, mid-career professionals must stay engaged and lead their teams accordingly.

I recently sat down with executive career and job search expert Marcelle Yeager from Career Valet to discuss strategies to help you increase employee engagement and retention, whether you manage a virtual team or not. As mid-career leaders and professionals, Marcelle brings a fresh and welcomed approach to ensuring everyone is heard and validated while still holding people accountable.

In this week’s episode of “The Mid-Career GPS Podcast,” you’ll learn tips on how to be a better communicator when writing and speaking, how to lead your virtual teams, the future of remote work, and how to keep your employees happy, engaged, productive, and with you for years to come.
