Costly recycling habits!

Your recycling habits could be costing you!

Cardboard Prices are soaring upward at the moment! One of the reasons for this is the rapid increase in the price of OCC!

Old corrugated containers (OCC), is the name given to waste paper that, when recycled, is used to make Corrugated Cardboard. It is easy to recycle, recovery rates have topped 90% recently AND LEVELLED OFF!

The reasons for the issues of Supply and Demand are well documented, however not that much time has been given to what is now known as the “Amazon Effect.”

The Amazon Effect is used to describe the rising popularity of online shopping, with more and more people choosing to sit in the comfort of their own homes to shop, rather than going outside onto the physical high street. The fact is that it is causing some form of disruption in EVERY Industry!

Online companies frequently use corrugated boxes to package their goods, and it is believed that less corrugated waste is being recycled by households than the amount that would be from retailers and big business. The "token" recycling Bin provided by your local Council is wholly inadequate. (As is the little flap on the Cardboard Recycling Bin at your local recycling spot)

An informal poll of Family and Friends found that Cardboard is being binned or burned to stop them being swamped!

As a result, we are suffering from reduced supply of recovered paper that ultimately affect the price of packaging!
