6 Lessons from 6 Business Icons

  1. Indra Nooyi (former CEO of PepsiCo) in an interview reiterated the need to adapt to changing market conditions. Be flexible and willing to adjust your strategies as needed to stay competitive.

  1. Mark Cuban (owner of the Dallas Mavericks) emphasizes learning from mistakes. He famously said, "Fail fast, fail cheap, but most importantly, fail." Don't be afraid to take calculated risks and learn from setbacks.

  1. Jeff Bezos (co-founder of Amazon) prioritizes customer obsession. He believes that if you put the customer first, everything else will follow. Focus on solving real problems for your target audience.

  1. Richard Branson (founder of Virgin Groups) shared the importance of surrounding yourself with talented and passionate people in his speeches. Look for individuals who compliment your skills and share your vision.

  1. Elon Musk (CEO of Tesla and SpaceX) is known for his relentless pursuit of ambitious goals. He embodies perseverance and the ability to overcome significant challenges. Be prepared for the long haul and stay focused on your vision.

  1. Steve Jobs (co-founder of Apple) was a master of innovation and challenging the status quo. Don't be afraid to disrupt your industry and think creatively.

The 4 Pillars to Maxing Out Your Potential

You are not responsible for the hand you were dealt. However, you are 100% responsible for maxing out the hand that you were given. Now, the reality is we were all born into different situations, have different kinds of talents, and have different levels of resources available. But none of that matters. Why? Because your job is to take what you’ve been given—regardless of how much or how little it is—and do all that you can to maximize your life.

Now, you may be asking yourself: But how do I do that? Let me answer that with a proverb. It goes, “There is much food in the hollow ground of the poor.” Fallow ground means ground that’s at rest. It’s under-utilized and not being maxed out to its full potential. There’s all kinds of “food” capacity, and potential in that land. But if you don’t max it out, you’ll remain poor.

In this post, we’re discussing what I call the four potential pillars. Keep reading to learn more.

1. The Appearance of Potential Does Not Always Indicate True Potential

So many times, we judge based on the surface. Even when we look at and throw labels on ourselves, such as “I don’t have a lot of potential, I’m not very intelligent, I don’t have a lot of capacity, etc.” Here’s the thing: your biggest challenge is not so much resources; it’s resourcefulness. The reason we look at ourselves and fail to max out our potential is that we confuse the appearance of potential with the presence of true potential.

2. There is Massive Potential in Every Single One of Us

You have unbelievable potential. The only thing is you have to see it and believe it in order to realize it. Far too often, our potential is unexplored and underutilized. This may sound strange, but when I go for my morning runs every day, I will sometimes run by a local cemetery. And when I do, I’ll frequently just stop and pray. All the business dreams and unrealized inventions that could have blessed the world are now buried forever with the people who never believed in their own potential.

Your underutilized potential is creating a lack of abundance and prosperity in your life. No one has any right to blame the government, their parents, etc., for their poverty. God gave you limitless potential for the benefit of both you and the people in your life.

3. Underutilized Potential Always Results in Poverty

So, I mentioned this in the previous point. However, it truly stands as its own pillar worthy of introspection. Here’s a powerful truth about poverty: Poverty is NOT a number in your bank account. I wish it were that simple. Poverty is a mindset. There are plenty of people out there with money in the bank but who have a poor mentality.

So, it’s not about the money in your bank; it’s about your mindset. Your mindset determines your productivity. Anything you can do to strengthen your mindset is a powerful investment in yourself. In fact, I believe the best investment is unleashing people's productive potential and capacity!

4. Mining and Maximizing Your Potential is a Personal Choice

At some point, you have to decide that you’re not going to take personal responsibility for your life. There’s no superhero coming to save you. You and I—each one of us—have to own our journey. So, how do you max out your potential? Here are a few principles to help you get started:

  1. Check your perspective: The first thing you have to do is check your view. What is your perspective? How are you seeing the world around you? And, more importantly, how are you viewing yourself? Is it in a favorable or negative light? If you aren’t seeing yourself and the world at large in a positive way, can I invite you to change your perspective? You have to rewire how you view things so you can see the world in an empowering way.

Lean into what you do well: Focus on the things or activities you naturally excel at. Here’s the deal: Even if I’m a smart guy, there are all kinds of things I could not make a dime doing. I’m Canadian; I love playing hockey. But I’m just not good enough to make any money doing that. So, instead, I’m going to focus on what I do well. Now, you also need to ask yourself: What do you do well? I want you to sit down and write out 5 or 10 things that you do exceptionally well—that you bring magic to. Everybody has something.

  1. Develop your resilience: No one owes you anything. If you think the world owes you everything, you will end up sitting around waiting for all of life’s spoils to fall into your lap. Hate to break it to ya, but that’s not the way the world works. That’s where resilience comes in. Resilience for what? To risk and invest. There’s so much creative potential in you; however, it will never be realized if you leave it buried in the ground, dormant.

  1. Find your tribe: We are limited by the people we surround ourselves with. I know there are people I need to latch on to and others I need to leave behind. I appreciate and value community and long-term relationships. I’m not interested in seeing people just come and go in my life. But at the same time, I know when a relationship has run its course.

Conclusion

You have unbelievable potential; you are absolutely unstoppable unless you allow yourself to be stopped. Don’t let anyone or anything hold you back. The Power of a Dream (How Your Ambitions Impact Your Life)

One thing is certain—and I don’t want to discourage you—but every one of us is going to die someday. So, the question is not, will we die; the question is, will we live? Here’s what I know: God gives big dreams. And the size of your dream determines what you accomplish (or fail to accomplish) in life. If you have a pint-sized dream, guess what? You’ll get pint-sized results.

But if you allow your heart to be stretched out like a canvas, if you allow God to write a dream and a vision on your heart, you’ll end up with a big dream. And with that big dream, you’ll have the capacity to do something great that could not only change your life but the lives of those around you.

The Biggest Regret of Most People

Most people, on their deathbed, are more regretful of the things they didn’t do instead of the things they did. What does that mean for you? It means not chasing your dream will most likely become more painful than any consequences that may come from chasing it. One of the saddest places in any city is the local cemetery.

And not just because of the loss of all those loved ones, but because of all the dreams that have died alongside those who never mustered the courage to live them out. Think of all the unsung songs, the unwritten poems, the unrealized inventions, the unseen businesses, and so on.

These people took their ideas and dreams to the grave. Why? They were so afraid of being mocked or stuck that they played it safe.

Big Dreams Carry You Through Big Hardships

You may be experiencing hardship and discouragement right now. You may feel abandoned. You may look at your bank account and not see enough money; you may look at your relationships and not have close friends; you may look within yourself and feel emptiness. That’s where the power of a dream comes in. A dream is faith in a better, happier future.

I know you have a dream because you were created in God's image. I’ll tell you what: God has planted a big dream (probably several) in your heart. Life, trauma, and hardship may have stolen that dream, but that doesn’t mean your dream is gone.

Strengthen your mindset to reclaim your dream. An unhealthy mindset cannot produce incredible results; it’s impossible.

Overcome the Pit

We all have to overcome the pit. Anytime you attempt to do anything great, you will experience the pit. The pit is where people criticize you, talk down to you, or even walk out and abandon you. The pit is where you’ll find yourself all alone, where the only thing you have is your dream and your relationship with God.

So many people quit at this moment because they can’t stand the pain of being alone. But here’s the deal… To overcome the pit, you have to embrace it. Why? Because you can’t have the highs without the lows, every peak has a valley.

Part of life is failure, part of life is struggle, and part of life is trying something daring and having it not work out in your favour. So, don’t be discouraged when you enter the pit on the path to your dream. It’s part of the process.

Continue moving forward to your vision anyway. Without that vision, that dream, you’ll go through life empty.

Say ‘Yes’ to Your Dreams

Imagine what your life would look like if you gave yourself permission to do all the things that are in your heart. Would you start that business, write that book, or take that special trip to Africa? Your life can become a wonderful adventure when you begin honoring your goals, dreams, and desires. And that’s where the magic in this life really takes place—when you say ‘yes’ to your dreams. Miracles can happen when you live in alignment with your desires.

If God gave you a dream or a vision, you have to honor it. Why? Because you were created to do magnificent things. You were born to bring good news to the poor; you were born to bring healing to the brokenhearted. But here’s the deal (and many people don’t want to hear this part)... You need hardship to bring your dreams to life.

Adversity helps you step into accomplishment. But that’s why it’s so important to trust in God. Things won’t always turn out the way you expect; however, if you have faith in the process, continue to persist, and stay focused on your vision, you will be rewarded for your efforts.

But that will never happen if you quit. So, say ‘yes’ to your dreams,’ and continue moving toward them every day.

Conclusion

Your dreams have the power to keep you alive, to keep you pushing forward to a better and brighter future. Nothing can replace the power of a detailed vision of what your life can become. For this reason, it’s essential to determine your path and purpose in life. And at Certified Flourishing Coach, we’re here to help. How to Make Your Dreams Soar (A Simple System to Achieve Your Ambitions)

Your dreams deserve to bud, blossom, and soar. If you’re wrestling with poverty and limitation, this hinders your ability to help, bless, and give abundance to others. I know for me, I grew up in poverty. And let me tell you: Poverty is horrible! However, the second thing I knew was that the more impoverished I was, the less I was able to give to others. That’s why I’m so grateful that my wife and I have created this incredible life where we can be generous to people.

So, the question is: What assumptions keep us poor? Once we have the answers to this question, we can shift our mindset to a more abundant line of thinking, which in turn will create a more prosperous life. Let’s start with the first tip that will help your dreams soar, which is…

Delay Gratification

In my earlier years, I had the assumption that delayed gratification was not a requirement for success. If you grew up in poverty as I did, the assumption is that because you don’t have a lot, every time you get something, you gobble it up as fast as you can! For example, as a youngster, whenever someone gave me a new t-shirt or a chocolate bar, I would wear that t-shirt every day or eat that candy bar the moment I got it.

Why? Because I never knew when I was going to get another one. Now, you may ask, “What’s the big deal with that?” The problem was when I started making money, I would spend it rather than save and invest it. So, that “chocolate bar” mentality I had in my adolescence carried over into my finances when I reached adulthood. Essentially, I was burning through everything I made as quickly as I made it.

Set Priorities

Here’s the deal: Your time, energy, focus, resources, etc., are all limited. For this reason, you have to decide what’s most important to you so you can allocate your faculties to that particular outcome. There was a study done by a gentleman by the name of Thomas Corely. He spent 5 years studying over 200 millionaires. And he then discovered what he called poverty habits. These habits included:

  • More than an hour of TV/Netflix daily
  • More than an hour of social media surfing daily
  • Eat more than 300 junk calories a day

What do these behaviors have in common? They all reflect a lack of priorities. Moreover, they are indicators of a lack of self-control. And that is one of the main signifiers of someone who is impoverished.

Avoid Procrastination

Poverty is not your destiny; it’s simply a stage or season in life. This is where a mindset shift needs to occur. What if you saw poverty as just another step on your way to wealth and greatness? That’s the kind of mindset that you need. Another habit that Corely shared in his five-year study was that millionaires avoid procrastination.

They lean into personal development and their professional goals. Moreover, they focus themselves on these critical aspects, which, as a result, enables them to grow. Their dreams then take on a life of their own as they move forward to their continued development.

Conclusion

Your dreams are the starting point for your bigger and brighter future. You should treat them with the respect they deserve. And the way you do that is through honoring them by chasing them down. I know that’s easier said than done, and that’s why we at Certified Flourishing Coach are here for support.

Find Your Voice: 3 Mindset Shifts for Carving Out Your Own Lane in Life

You have a right to find your voice, make your mark, and be heard in the world. This is a necessary part of your development. It’s how you will be able to grow into the best version of yourself and start flourishing in every area of your life. The good news is that getting on this path doesn’t require you to attend a dozen seminars, read 100 books, or go on a meditation retreat to “find yourself.”

All that’s required to find your voice is a change in mindset. Luckily, there are only 3 easy shifts you need to make in your thinking to uncover your unique voice so you can carve your own lane and begin thriving in life.

  1. You’re Not for Everybody

You have to stop worrying about the opinions of others. So often, we become so consumed by the thoughts and opinions of people we don’t even know, or like that we hold ourselves back from reaching our full potential. I’ll tell you what: If people don’t love and accept you for who you are, they are not your real tribe. Your tribe is out there. You’re not for everyone, so you have to circulate through life, being unapologetically yourself, and those who are meant to be in your life will find you.

However, that will never happen if you’re caught in the trap of trying to get everyone to accept a fake version of yourself. Don’t waste your precious, valuable time on those who don’t recognize how amazing you are. By separating and distancing yourself from the wrong people, you create space in your life for the right people to fill.

  1. Purpose Determines Path

You must discover your purpose if you want to find your voice. Your purpose will unlock doors of opportunity and lead you to incredible places, people, and possibilities. But you have to take that step forward to discover what your unique purpose is. Here are a few simple questions you can ask yourself to get your mind thinking about this topic more critically:

What makes you mad?

What makes you glad?

  1. What makes you sad?

Your purpose can be found in the things that trigger your emotions. So, what gets you riled up? What brings tears to your eyes? What inspires and encourages you? These are things that—on the surface—may seem innocuous. But they are the key that can open the door to your purpose.

Consistency Wins the Race

One of the things I do every single morning is go for my runs. It doesn’t matter if it’s cold or warm, rain or sunshine, tired or full of energy, I go for my daily run. Not every run is perfect. And it doesn’t need to be because regardless of the conditions, I’m going to show up! Why? Because it’s not about perfection; it’s about consistency.

You have to be consistent if you want to find your voice. Consistency builds character. And character is what you need to stand up against those who try to shun you or shut you down. Moreover, consistency develops the strength and grit that is essential for you to go the distance in your life. View yourself as the tortoise who beats the hare.

Slowly and steadily, you are continually trotting along toward your destination. Your voice will be revealed to you through continual effort toward your most important goals. As a result, you know it will be who you truly are because of the internal strength you’ve developed due to your continual self-directed effort. And that’s something no one can take away from you!

Final Thoughts

Finding your voice is a process; it’s a continual unfolding of your life’s journey. The key phrase there is “your life’s journey.” Your journey is uniquely your own. Therefore, you shouldn’t compare yourself to anyone in any category. No matter how far you go, there will always be people ahead of you. And no matter how far you fall, there will always be people behind you. Therefore, comparison is a game that makes no sense to play.

Focus on yourself and improve your current situation little by little, day by day. And if you need assistance, we’re here to help. At Certified Flourishing Coach, we are an expert team of coaches and facilitators who use an evidence-based system for personal and professional growth. So, if you’re ready to flourish in life, contact us today to learn more.
