Is your travelling experience really rejuvenating you?

Indian tourism saw a spike in the past decade. People have grown up from going to pilgrimages to visiting national and international destinations depending on their affordability. This growth spurt can be attributed to rise in financial status, transport getting cheaper, information sharing digital platforms and travel blogs on the internet etc. But, is this the real reason behind elevated tourism?

The busy lives spent in earning a decent livelihood is no less than a rat race exhausting an individual to the core. There is an apparent stress build-up. The physical, psychological and emotional stress experienced by a mere individual is in turn a stimulus for the growth spurt in travel industry. However, is travelling really relieving the occupational stress of a mere person in fatigue?

An exhausted soul may need a break through experience to get away from the routine hustle and bustle. If we believe travelling to be a boon to take away the fatigue levels from a tired individual, what is it that the travel destination is offering? An alluring destination may have theme parks, wonderlands, natural structures, manicured gardens, huge aquariums, zoos and so on… But is the destination “made up” for travelling or is the incredible geography beckoning you with its charm?

In general, any travelling destination has one foremost thing to be a so called tourist spot. A great beach or a snow capped mountain range, a breath taking water fall or a picturesque deep valley, a dense forest or a pretty flowing river and so on…..these all themes are good to give you solace undoubtedly. However, it is also apparent that many of such locations are developed in eye for tourism as travelers prefer a destination with multiple themes in it. A beach destination may have a resort with marine food and water sport activity. A mountain range may have a webbed den or a cable car service. A forest may have a tribal museum or a safari. But is this real travelling?!!!!

A tourist location planned and developed exclusively to fetch revenue may not be the real one to make your heart jump after a disastrous phase of work pressure. A fabricated resort may not revitalize you to the core by breaking the routine blues. A manicured garden is definitely not the one to fill up your desiccated mind with greenery. Then what exactly is travelling?

The land, the soil, the vegetation, the food staples, the clothing, the cultures and rituals, the festivals, the social stigmas in that location, the geology, the mines and resources, the people and their mind sets are the real things to know if you have to get the actual break through from the hustle and bustles of your own city. Otherwise, manicured gardens, replicating beach resorts, theme parks and amusement arenas can be made up in your city too… you don’t have to visit a different location to experience them. Get travelling to explore the world, immerse in a different world from yours, travel for the sake of rejuvenating your mind, body and soul!! Use your wanderlust to refresh your mind! Pack your rucksacks??!!!!

... so that you lose your soul and bring back only the memories to keep rejuvenating till you gear up for next travel. Never the less one has to be technically detached from the mundane life while traveling to detox the mind and body as well.

This is an aspect of the travel and tourism industry which is often less traveled. I find this take to be an afresh analysis of the business category which speaks beyond the target of making money. That’s exactly what I find interesting about the write-up as you have come across from the “TRAVELLER’S” point of view, amidst world of commercialization and money-minting discussions. Great work….do come up with such insightful view points on other topics as well. This one is a MUST READ for every globetrotter.
