You're Right. It's not Supposed to Be This Way.

You're Right. It's not Supposed to Be This Way.

I know this sounds very cliché, but I am going to say it anyway because it is true. But before that…

Let me say, we are not meant to be "satisfied with our lives". We are meant to have a certain amount of dissatisfaction in some area or a number of areas of lives at any given time. If we really satisfied with our lives, then we would become apathetic and indifferent.

Now, that is bad enough. But it gets worse. Because of the brain's principle of boredom, we find we cannot just remain apathetic and indifferent - idle, is another word for it - we find we must do something. Even if it is stupid or wrong.

Ah! That is the point of decision. Will I do something worthwhile, or will I do something stupid or wrong? Stupid or wrong, or stupid and wrong, when played out, always becomes drama. Drama is never good. Over time, drama well practiced becomes histrionics. Fruitcake, looney tunes, over the top crazy with monkeys coming out of your mouth and eyes is a simple way of describing histrionics. Really not good.

Getting back to where I began, dissatisfaction and boredom are the turning point for going in a worthwhile direction or a not so good direction. I call these two different actions Ascending Dynamics and Descending Dynamics. What are they? Just as they sound.

Ascending Dynamics is about a series of choices that move you upward and expand your life with greater choices, actions, better relationships, greater achievements, more happiness, and, yes, higher satisfaction.

Descending Dynamics, on the other hand, is about a series of choices that move you downward and contract your life through procrastination, complaining, blaming, the flames of hell, cannibalism and playing “The Victim”. Which pretty much sucks.

What if you do both? Well, then, you go back and forth sometimes ascending and other times descending. And, that's called hell, too. You won't make up your mind. You're stuck in the elevator between floors. Up and down! Up and down! You're dying of hunger, thirst, boredom, you have to go to the bathroom and have nowhere to take it. Also, hell.

So, what was that cliché, now? Yes! “You are meant to learn and grow.” You were never meant to be stuck doing the same old things day in and day out, year after year.

Most people have some awareness of these truths. Believe them to some degree, but really don't feel these truths apply to them personally. What is the result of this disbelief on a personal level? Yes, dissatisfaction. Actually, it is dissatisfaction with their dissatisfaction, which is, or course, hell. Or better yet, HELL!

Now, on the national level…

The result is a bunch of people sitting round, when they are not going through the mechanical motions to continue an existence of "quiet desperation,"…addicted to mindless counterfeits of satisfaction – like drugs, alcohol, sex, gambling , porno, video games, social media, or bowling; while at the same time…they are waiting for Santa Claus to come and bring them presents, along with the Easter Bunny who is going to hop in and save them from all their boredom, dissatisfaction and their addictions, but not all of them.

May I ask - Has the Easter Bunny shown up yet?

No?

Maybe it is time to do something else, because it’s not supposed to be this way.

Ah yes...Choices. Thank You Maikel for creatively articulating that we are indeed the master of our ships. I chose to ascend.
