Lucky Girl Syndrome

If you haven't heard of the viral Tiktok manifestation trend, Lucky Girl Syndrome - I'm here to give you the scoop, along with my own take on how you can leverage its manifestation mentality to boost your own confidence at home, at work and in your community.

What is it: Lucky Girl Syndrome is the latest sensation to describe the "law of attraction" or simply the art of manifesting good things in your life. I like to sum it up as using positive affirmations to speak good things into existence. Affirmations like "I'm so lucky, everything always works out for me" and "I don't chase, I attract" are part of the bedrock of Lucky Girl Syndrome.

My disclaimer: As an avid fan of positive affirmations, I believe in their ability to positively shift our mindsets, however, I also believe they are not the end all be all in achieving what we want. We can say positive affirmations all day, but if we don't also put in the hard work required through tangible action-taking, we likely aren't going to get very far (at least in my humble opinion on the topic). It's the combination of affirmations + actions that are the secret-sauce.

How you can use it: In a world where many of us are still living a burnt out existence and find ourselves regularly feeling overwhelmed, it's easy to become our toughest critic or to get into the habit of allowing our minds to drift to the worst-case scenario. This is where I've found the mentality of Lucky Girl Syndrome to be powerful - using it as a way to reframe our thinking and allowing ourselves to have a dash more hope for what could be, instead of what could go wrong.

What if instead of beating yourself up over that work mistake you made, you acknowledged that you are doing the best and your best is enough. What if instead of talking yourself out of applying to that job that you don't meet every requirement for, you reminded yourself of all the amazing experience and transferable skills you have.

The list of examples could go on and on, but the point is this: We create our own luck and sometimes that luck needs an extra dash of confidence that doesn't come from external validation but from ourselves. So what positive affirmation can you weave into your daily life? Will it be one that puts your luck back in your own control? Will it be one that reminds you of how awesome you already are? I sure hope so.

The Power of A Quarterly Review

I am the BIGGEST believer in taking the time to truly reflect and one of the best times to do this is at the end of a quarter. At the end of a quarter, enough time has passed for you to collect a ton of data about yourself and your behaviors.

  • Have you been sticking to your routines?
  • Have you developed a bad habit you want to ditch?
  • Did you make the time for your important relationships like you had hoped to?
  • Did you take action on the goals you set for yourself or have you gone down a different path?

Personal data about ourselves is powerful, giving us the chance to know ourselves better and reconnect with those dreams we envisioned when we started this year. Reflecting allows us to take this data and turn into into intentional changes.

Below I've shared a snapshot of the Quarterly Review Reflection guide that I created within my What You Do Matters Planner. You can learn more about the full planner here:
