Youth Are In Dire Need of Education Around Hope
Welcome to this week's Hopebeat Weekly Newsletter, where we share hopeful news and updates on how we are activating hope around the world!
Last week I spoke with students at Manhasset Public School in Long Island, New York about the importance of hope as they embark on their college journey.
We discussed how to create, maintain, and grow hope, and I encouraged them to write their own hope stories. We are deeply grateful to Connie Bruno and the entire Manhasset Public School team for allowing me to connect with kids, one of my favorite things to do.
I was again reminded that youth are in dire need of education around hope. We measured hope in the audience, and it wasn’t positive. According to a recent CDC study, 57% of teen girls are experiencing persistent hopelessness, and I saw this reflected in the audience. We are failing our kids and must do something to drive change. The good news is hope is teachable.
I also spoke virtually with Cencal Health to train their organization on hope science in Santa Barbara, and we are working to activate hope in their city. Healthcare workers are incredibly high in hopelessness, with some reports suggesting over 50% want to leave their position. That is why it is especially important to Shine Hope in healthcare, as hope is key to retention.
It was also an honor to connect at the GlobalMindEd 10th Anniversary Conference, a fantastic conference in Denver with innovative education leaders. We had an energizing Juneteenth celebration, and I shared how we are activating hope on college campuses. So many youth attended the event, so it was extra inspiring as they are motivated to change our collective future.
I had insightful conversations with brilliant minds like James Rhee of Red Helicopter and was inspired by Samuel Lalanne, Managing Director at Morgan Stanley. A big thank you to GlobalMindEd for inviting us to share hope with such changemakers.
