YouTube will block accounts that uses Ad-Blocking Detection Software, Three Strikes and You're Out
To the main Point
A spokesperson from YouTube confirmed that the company is testing “a small experiment globally” to detect ad blockers. In return for their cooperation, users may be banned from the service if they repeatedly block ads.
They recently began showing a warning message to users when they watch three videos where ads were blocked.
While detecting an ad blocker is not new, YouTube wants to see if it can encourage their viewers to enable them or switch over to YouTube Premium.
Users have started seeing pop-ups that warn them of the consequences for using ad-blocking software too much.
The warning reads, “It looks like you’re using an ad blocker. To watch this video you need to either allow list YouTube or disable the ad-blocker. We want all our users around the world to enjoy free content and ads help us do that.”
YouTube takes disabling playback “very seriously.” However, they will only do so after viewers ignore multiple requests to allow ads. The company also added that ads help support creators and ensure the platform stays free.
Should viewers decide they don’t want to see any more ads, they can switch over to YouTube Premium which costs $11.99 monthly or $119.99 annually and offers other benefits besides removing all types of advertisements.
