You’ve Been Boo’d!

“Boo!” is not just the sound you make when you jump out and try to scare your friend. Rather, it has been repurposed by neighbors, teachers, nurses, and offices all over the United States. “Boo-ing” is the tradition of anonymously leaving one of your neighbors a Halloween related treat and a ghost icon so they can indicate to others that they have been “boo’d.” Then the neighbor who received the gift, it is their turn to “Boo” someone else, and the treat giving goes on and on until everyone in the workplace, neighborhood, or school has been gifted an anonymous candy bag, using a ghost icon to indicate when they have received a “Boo” so there are no repeats. This tradition is also known as “Ghosting, Spooking, Hobgolin-ing, and the Phantom.” However, the principal is the same - make your peers' day a little bit sweeter and get in the holiday spirit. Halloween can sometimes have a negative and spooky stigma around it and this tradition helps to dispel any impending sense of evil and instead focus on the lighthearted fun of dressing up and receiving candy. Consider starting “Boo-ing” in your office, school, or neighborhood and see the sugary sweet smiles.
