Chilled Beams & Ceiling Association
Environmental Services
Chilled Ceilings & Chilled Beams are increasingly used to provide comfort cooling in both new and refurbished buildings.
About us
The Chilled Beam and Ceiling Association (formerly the Chilled Ceiling Association), has been formed by leading companies within the building industry. The objective of the Association is to promote the use of Chilled Beams and Chilled Ceilings, and encourage best practice in their development and application. Members meet throughout the year to discuss relevant topics and issues, and to agree courses of action designed to achieve this objective.

What is Radiant cooling? ➡️ It involves the direct absorption of heat radiated from warm surfaces within the room, which occurs when there are cooler surfaces visible to the warmer surfaces. ➡️ This type of system results in low air velocity with an even temperature distribution in the occupied zone, thus providing very good comfort levels. What is a Chilled Beam? Chilled beams provide fresh air flow circulation in indoor spaces to maintain healthy indoor air quality (IAQ). This is provided by a chilled water system regulating hot or cold temperatures, running efficiently through a copper beam. Discover how chilled beams can work in your commercial building, visit Chilled Beams & Ceiling Association and its members here: https://lnkd.in/ep__pPVn #chilledbeams

Essentially, the difference between active and passive chilled beams is the process of the airflow and fresh air brought indoors. Although both contain a heat exchanger, ACB's require a primary airflow supply which will be pressurised before passing through nozzles. The air will then be induced in order to provide more cooling capacity than passive chilled beams. PCB's don't require a primary airflow, so the ventilation airflow needs to be supplied differently. Whilst chilled water passes through the heat exchanger tubes, warm air will rise upwards and the chilled beam cools surrounding air. Water offers a more energy efficient way of distributing energy in the form of heating and cooling around a building than ‘all air’ systems because of its high specific heat capacity and thermal conductivity. Multi-Service chilled beams (MSCBs) which are sometimes referred to as integrated service modules (ISMs) consist of either passive or active chilled beams which are factory assembled with additional building services into a single module; the services typically incorporated into MSCBs can include: • Luminaires • Infra-red sensors (PIR) • Photocells • Control valves and actuators • Apertures for sprinkler heads • Voice and data cabling • Public address systems https://lnkd.in/eZCMzKXi
-
MSCB’s are assembled in a controlled factory environment, resulting in superior build quality & increased product accuracy compared with on site assembly. Assembly in a factory environment has improved material control over that of site-based work and as materials can be procured in larger quantities, manufacturing efficiencies can be increased.
