In the north of South Sudan, close to Sudanese border in Raja County, South Sudan Red Cross has organized the distribution of essential items for returnees. These families, having fled the conflict in South Sudan years ago, are now seeking refuge again due to the ongoing war in Sudan and have come to the north of South Sudan. Thanks to the support of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Denmark, 500 families in Raja have received essential supplies, including sleeping mats, plastic sheets, mosquito nets, blankets, soap, kitchen sets, jerrycans, and water buckets. #HumanitarianAid #Support #Refugees #SouthSudan #CommunitySupport #EssentialSupplies #DanishMinistryOfForeignAffairs photos: South Sudan Red Cross

Great news! SSRC staff receives global humanitarian Award Natalia Mimi Alex received the Red Cross Movement Family Links Medal on 27 October 2024 in Geneva, Switzerland. Natalia works with South Sudan Red Cross, branch of Yambio as Restoring Family Links officer. She has been reconnecting and reuniting families separated by conflicts or other situations of violence. Yambio being one of the areas that experienced several conflicts that resulted in numerous displacement and hundreds of people going missing, her role became crucial. “The RFL work I do fills me with purpose and gratitude. It is more than a job, it’s a mission to restore hope to families torn apart by conflict. Reconnecting loved ones not only brings people together but heals communities and restores a sense of belonging. The profound impact of this work, even in the darkest moments, reignites hope and helps rebuild society,” Natalia said as she received the medal. The Medal was created by the Red Cross Council of Delegates in 2022 to pay special tribute to staff and volunteers working, often in the most difficult circumstances, to maintain or restore contact between separated family members, search for their loved ones or to reunite families who have been separated by conflict, disaster, migration or other humanitarian situations.

Due to heavy rains in South Sudan since May, the country is facing severe flooding, affecting over 730,000 people. We are reaching out to those most in need. With funding from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Denmark, South Sudan Red Cross has supported 1,300 families (more than 7,500 people) with essential items to help them in their new locations after their homes were flooded. These items include buckets for clean water storage, soap, mats, blankets, mosquito nets and others. This aid would not have been possible without Danish Ministry of Foreign Affairs, thank you for the support. #SouthSudan #FloodRelief #HumanitarianAid #RedCross #DanishMinistryOfForeignAffairs #CommunitySupport photos: South Sudan Red Cross

Recently, the South Sudan Red Cross Emergency Action Team (EAT) in Old Fangak successfully evacuated residents after heavy rainfall caused a dyke to break, leading to severe flooding. The team was promptly alerted by community leaders seeking assistance for affected households. Thanks to prior training provided by South Sudan Red Cross and Danish Red Cross, the EAT was well-prepared to handle the situation. This training was made possible through the support of the European Commission - ECHO, under the ECHO PPP project in South Sudan, coordinated by International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies - IFRC. We extend our heartfelt gratitude to all our partners and donors. Your work makes a significant difference in the lives of those affected by disasters. 🙏 . #EmergencyResponse #DisasterRelief #CommunitySupport #FloodRelief #HumanitarianAid #RedCross #SouthSudan #ECHOProject #CrisisManagement photos: SSRC

📣 New resource just uploaded 🌍 'Group Cash Transfers in South Sudan: Case Study and Learning Brief' South Sudan Red Cross Society (SSRC) with the support of Danish Red Cross conducted a pilot last year using the Group Cash Transfer (GCT) approach. The SSRC engaged in the GCTs pilot to complement their ongoing strategic priority towards using cash and voucher assistance in their interventions. The GCTs allowed communities to lead the priority setting, design, implementation, and monitoring of their group projects. The overall project aim was to stimulate and create avenues for communities to access food locally and to enable resilient livelihoods for the group members. #cva #cash #humanitarian #SouthSudan #livelihoods #communities Danish Red Cross in South Sudan https://lnkd.in/dPWeKxMn

Members of the South Sudan Red Cross (SSRS) Emergency Action Team (EAT) in the Old Fangak Unit in Jonglei state conduct flood control measures in their community by taking early frontline steps to reduce the impact of disasters. Simple tasks such as clearing drainage channels, repairing dikes and informing at risk community members of impeding danger can greatly reduce the impact of disasters such as floods. By training and supporting EATs the SSRC is building healthy and resilient population of the most vulnerable affected by conflict, crises, and climate change. Funding for this and other activities is provided by DG-ECHO though the IFRC and Danish Red Cross in South Sudan, under the Pilot Programmatic Partnership, a 3-year global funding plan between the Red Cross Movement and DG-ECHO.
