New scientific paper by PGCert in Ecological Survey Techniques alumna Wenna Grigg. Find out more > https://lnkd.in/eBQkn-iu
Very proud to see the publication of my first scientific paper "Habitat suitability modelling for restoration of intertidal seagrass, Zostera noltei: A case study from the Greater Thames Estuary, UK" in the Estuarine, Coastal and Shelf Science Journal. https://lnkd.in/eTZ7uN-V The paper addresses the need for baseline mapping of dwarf eelgrass in the UK and the identification of sites for restoration through habitat suitability modelling. Our model extent was defined by the intertidal boundary, at a site-specific scale, and predominantly built on open source and easily derived environmental variables, to meet the needs of restoration practitioners. Using areas of high habitat suitability index, we identify ~600 Ha of "good" habitat for potential restoration for intertidal seagrass in the Thames, Medway and Swale Estuaries. This prediction represents a picture of habitat connectivity in comparison to the isolated patches of Z. noltei meadows that currently exist in these estuaries. A big thank you to my co-authors Chris Yesson, Kerry Marten, Thea Cox, and Anna Cucknell. #seagrass #habitatsuitabilitymodel #GreaterThamesEstuary #restoration
