Driving progress to meet Lithium demand in the U.S. We are excited to share ExxonMobil and LG Chem have signed a non-binding memorandum of understanding (MOU) for a multiyear offtake agreement for up to 100,000 metric tons of lithium carbonate. The lithium will supply production at LG Chem’s Tennessee cathode plant, which is expected to have an annual production capacity of 60,000 tons. ExxonMobil’s use of Direct Lithium Extraction technology (DLE) – a more sustainable method of production, along with our subsurface expertise, allows us to provide customers a critical mineral that advances lower emissions goals with fewer environmental impacts. This #realworldprogress agreement is a step forward on the road to developing domestic EV and battery supply chains. It can create jobs and benefit local communities. Moving (and managing) molecules is a foundational part of ExxonMobil’s expertise and we are applying that deep knowledge base to capturing, transporting and storing carbon emissions. Working with customers who are seeking a CCS solution in hard-to-abate sectors, our Low Carbon Solutions team is focused on how to help reduce their emissions at scale. Hear from Kathleen Ash on how our robust CO₂ transport network around the Gulf Coast can increase efficiencies for our customers by leveraging shared infrastructure— much like a subway system. https://lnkd.in/eHgNg3iN

At the recent Ammonia Energy Association (AEA) conference, we had the opportunity to engage with industry leaders on lower-carbon ammonia as a critical solution in the energy transition, and the importance of supply reliability in this growing market. We envision helping to create a new market for low-carbon ammonia, leveraging our expertise in bringing large projects to market, to help the manufacturing, power generation, and transportation sectors advance their lower emissions goals. We’re already making progress towards this vision with our planned low-carbon hydrogen and ammonia facility in Baytown. Listen to Christina Nordstrom, Hydrogen Business Development Manager Americas at Low Carbon Solutions, as she shares the powerful potential of low-carbon ammonia as a fuel source in the energy transition. #realworldprogress #ammoniaenergy #hydrogen #ammonia

We are excited to join fellow industry experts at Benchmark Week 2024, and look forward to engaging in a robust discussion on the opportunities and challenges facing the lithium-ion battery supply chain. As a key part of Mobil™ Lithium, we’ll plan to tap lithium-rich brines in North America using Direct Lithium Extraction (DLE), a process that is expected to be less carbon intensive than traditional hard-rock mining. This innovative process draws upon our core strengths in the subsurface and chemical engineering.
