🌐From the FutureWORKS Collective The FutureWORKS Collective (#FWC) is working to produce research and engage in consultations and dialogues across 5 different research themes. 🗂️ (2/5) Research Themes - 💟Care Economy #Care economy is dominated by highly gendered and informal roles where #women bear most of the burden of #unpaid care work. A 2018 #ILO study across 90 countries revealed that over 52% of mothers with children under five are not employed, compared to 12% of fathers and 46% of childless women. Despite significant efforts to advance women's #economic prospects, #gender #inequality and constraints on women's participation persist in many developing countries. One reason for this is that when instruments of public governance—systems, policies, regulations, and budgets—are designed and enacted, women's needs and considerations are often an afterthought rather than a proactive priority. The FutureWORKS Collective aims to generate evidence-based research to inform #practical #solutions on ways to make the care economy more #equitable and to enhance women's economic empowerment. 🔸How can care economy adequately address the unpaid care work burden borne by women and vulnerable communities? 🔸What steps can developing countries take to address the high levels of informality in the care economy? *** Follow us for regular updates from the FWC! The FutureWORKS Collective is a five-year interdisciplinary research consortium devoted to the future of work in developing countries. 🌐From the FutureWORKS Collective The FutureWORKS Collective (#FWC) is working to produce research and engage in consultations and dialogues across 5 different research themes. 🗂️ (1/5) Research Themes - 🛜Artificial Intelligence #Technological transformations — such as innovations in Information and Communication Technologies (#ICTs) and the adoption of Artificial Intelligence (#AI) — are reshaping production, consumption and trade across the world. They are changing the way businesses, industries and economies operate. It is critical to understand the medium- and long-term impact of these changes on workers, to curate and design labour market policies that ensure gender equity, protect the rights and interests of workers and promote creation of good quality jobs. Particularly in developing countries, governments are struggling with adoption of AI technologies for equitable economic benefits. The FWC is exploring the nexus of Artificial Intelligence and #labourmarkets to examine: 🔸What does the growth of AI mean for labour markets in developing countries? 🔸How does this impact vary across gender and other vulnerabilities? 🔸What are the gaps in adoption of AI technologies across the different developing countries and regions? 🔸What are the ways to foster regional collaboration to strengthen adoption of technology for healthy labour markets and economic growth in lower-income countries? *** Follow us for regular updates from the FWC!
