*Courage* is required to be a good mentor. “Show a little courage on behalf of others and figure out what you have to give, not what you have to get…it feels better,” John Hope Bryant, CEO of Operation HOPE, told LinkedIn News at Milken Institute Global Conference. “Try to unleash the untapped human potential of the person that you’re looking at who reminds you in many ways of yourself,” he adds on how to be a good mentor. “Having that humility but confidence at the same time is the key to life, not just the key to mentoring.” What’s the key to being a good mentor? When we grasp for time, often what we’re really seeking is control. And we don’t get all that much control in this life. This week at Office Hours, we’re discussing how we can better focus on the things we can control and surrender to the rest. This conversation is inspired by Monday’s episode with writer, teacher, and lifetime student of Buddhism, Sebene Selassie. Join us on the LinkedIn News page, Wednesday July 24th.

Where are the baby boomers looking to “unretire” finding the most career success? More baby boomers are coming out of retirement, likely thanks to economic pressures and a search for personal fulfillment. The share of baby boomers exiting retirement is at a five-year high, according to a new LinkedIn analysis. Those rejoining the workforce are largely finding luck in the Sun Belt. A handful of the top metro areas for baby boomer hires between May 2023 and May 2024 are popular retirement spots clustered in the South, including four Florida locales. Some of these metros also have the fastest growing populations in the country, according to the Census Bureau, as more people seek out sunnier skies and lower taxes. Read more about this story here: [https://lnkd.in/gfdJjzcH]. And weigh in below: If you live in any of these metro areas, what’s the appeal? And how can baby boomers looking for work stand out in the application process? ✍️: Rachel Cromidas Taylor Borden 📊: LinkedIn's Economic Graph

🚨 Welcome back to LinkedIn News Tech Stack 🚨 Canadian LLM-maker Cohere may not be a household name like OpenAI’s ChatGPT, but that doesn’t concern co-founder and CEO Aidan Gomez. That’s because the Toronto-based startup, which also competes with the likes of Google’s Gemini, Meta’s Llama family of models and Anthropic’s Claude, is going squarely after enterprises — focusing on the business applications of AI. Armed with $450 million in fresh funding (which he declined to comment on), Cohere is looking to scale its sales operations at a time when more businesses are putting their AI initiatives into production, Gomez told me in a sit-down interview at the Collision Conference in Toronto last week. Read the full interview below. Plus: 🤖 Catch up on the latest in AI, including Amazon reportedly building a rival to ChatGPT; 💻 Follow the latest news in tech, such as how Reddit, Inc. is cracking down on bots that scrape its data to train AI models; 👨💼 See who's making moves, including a top NVIDIA exec leaving the company.
