What do successful business leaders have in common? According to Kevin O'Leary, there’s one trait that all great leaders possess: “They’re able to distinguish the signal from the noise.” “Every day, you wake up and you have to execute something. Many of us start off the new year feeling pressure to lace up our gym shoes, stock our refrigerators with healthy food and complete a long list of personal development goals. Setting such high expectations for ourselves, however, can lead to feelings of guilt and overwhelm. But for author Katherine May, January is one of the worst times for a worse time for a fresh start. "It’s dark, it’s cold," Katherine says. "We are [already] dealing with all these difficult seasonal things." Instead of fighting this season, Katherine encourages us to honor our natural need for rest and recovery. When we lean into the things we want with gentleness — as opposed to a self-punishing mindset — we do a better job of setting ourselves up for success anyway. What do you want to honor in the coming year? Poppy, a former CNN anchor and seasoned journalist, has had a lot of hard conversations over the course of her career. Shifting from a hard-charging approach to one rooted in empathy has transformed both her interviews and her everyday conversations. One simple hack to try if you don’t feel fulfilled by your career: Color code your calendar. 🟪 Things you love 🟦 Things you sort of love 🟧 Things you don’t like 🟥 Things you hate What colors take up the majority of your time? Make adjustments to get more purple in your life. Claudette Powell spent years in the advertising and entertainment industry before she came to terms with the fact that these were talents that *other people* saw in her and not what she saw for herself. When she color coded her calendar, she realized the purple in her life was her time spent at church. She decided to pursue her calling to become a nun and she says she’s never been more happy or fulfilled in her entire life. What is your “purple”? Is it how you spend the majority of your time? Let us know in the comments. Watch the full episode of #Catalyst: https://lnkd.in/gjaz9wEE
