  • BIG shout out to Plus X Innovation who hosted our 30 students during work experience week. They generously allowed us to use their co-working space for free. This was important to provide the students with an opportunity to get out of their college environments, into a real work space. And this was not just any office, this was their stunning, contemporary, creative and inspiring Innovation Hub in Brighton. What an inspiring way to discover the world of work! Here's some of the photos of the week and the building by Varndean College photography student Pat Burley who was clearly inspired by what they saw! Thanks to Olga Hopton for organising the week, Toby Kress for sharing the vision and giving an inspiring welcome to students on day 1, to Jim Hodge and Danielle Alsey for giving our students an interview to talk about your work, and to co-founder Mat Hunter for joining our stakeholder panel discussion on the last day where students shared their manifesto on education, employability and sustainability. • Meet Beyond Procurement cost AND carbon reduction specialists. Andrew Childers BEng and Karla Lateef joined us during Meaningful Futures Work Experience week and gave our students the chance to be net-zero consultants for the day. They trained them to carry out a telephone-based survey of local care homes to understand their awareness of and progress towards net-zero targets which are now a CQC requirement. The students managed to do over 300 calls in 3 hours. They had never done cold-calling before and many young people are not used to making phone-calls as they favour text-based communications. This was a real challenge and they rose to the occasion. Some of the students were so good at it that they got given a business card! Afterwards two of our students, Zac Mitchell and Lara Venables from BHASVIC (Brighton Hove & Sussex Sixth Form College) interviewed Karla and Andrew to find out more about their work. Here's the profile they created about Beyond Procurement. Thanks so much to Andrew and Karla for your time and for giving our students the opportunity to learn about net-zero, make a positive contribution, build the communication skills and their confidence.
