Mentors in the Making

Professional Training and Coaching

A 1:1 mentoring program for teens and STEM professionals in the BNY Mellon Fab Lab Carnegie Science Center

About us

The Mentors in the Making program matches high school students with STEM professionals on a 1:1 basis in BNY Mellon Fab Lab Carnegie Science Center. The pairs meet once a week and learn side by side the tools and technologies of the lab — including 3D printing, laser cutting, and electronics. While the STEM mentors help provide guidance and drive conversations about STEM careers and education, they are not professionals in digital fabrication themselves. The mentors learn at the same pace as the students — an essential part of our program that empowers the students to become makers and inspires them to be lifelong learners.
