About us

Welcome to the IGGA’s Next Generation Concrete Surface (NGCS) Page! We provide the resources you need to specify and construct state-of-the-art diamond saw cut surface textures on your concrete roadway systems. Concrete roads offer the best life-cycle economics and with NGCS, you’ll get quieter travel, increased friction for enhanced safety, and improved ride. Developed by the IGGA, the American Concrete Pavement Association and the Portland Cement Association at Purdue University between 2006 and 2008, NGCS is the quietest non-porous concrete surface available. It is installed using conventional diamond grinding equipment, with the first step being to flush grind the concrete using 1/8-inch-wide blades with 0.035-inch spacers. Then 1/8-inch-wide longitudinal grooves are saw-cut to a depth of 1/8 to 3/16 at ½- to 5/8-inch centers. The NGCS is smoother and flatter than ordinary pavements; it has a consistent profile with a predominantly negative texture, absent of positive or upward texture elements.
