Pacific’s engineering and computer science programs are built around a foundation of experiential learning that empowers students to solve problems through innovation and outside-the-box thinking. Most students in SOECS participate in the distinguished cooperative education (CO-OP) program where they can gain industry experience through paid, professional student positions that are built into the curriculum. Additionally, student have opportunities to develop their own projects as well as work alongside professors on cutting-edge research. Our faculty take each student's education personally and are committed to mentoring them both inside and outside of the classroom. We are ranked in the top 20% of all non-doctoral Engineering and Computer Science programs in the country.

Emily M. is part of SOECS’s Computer Science program & is working as a Cybersecurity Analyst Intern for the City of Stockton, CA IT department.🌟 “In my role, I investigate & address emails reported as phishing to ensure they are properly mitigated. I monitor network traffic & alerts to quickly identify & respond to security incidents, using endpoint protection tools to maintain network security. Additionally, I develop & deliver cybersecurity training for employees & prepare detailed technical reports on security incidents.” When asked how SOECS has helped prepare her for this opportunity, Emily stated: “In my Computer Systems & Networks class, I gained a good understanding of network architecture & protocols, which was relevant when I had to monitor network traffic & manage security tools such as firewalls and other systems. Additionally, the System Administration & Security course provided me with foundational knowledge on managing network security & responding to incidents, which helped when I encountered & security vulnerabilities in my co-op role.” We’re proud to share that following Emily’s co-op experience, she has been offered a part time position with the hopes of her coming on full time with the City of Stockton following her graduation in December!🥳 We can’t wait to see what Emily’s future career has in store for her!🤩
