Access and inclusion in the retirement system—and the critical role of emergency savings—were central to many conversations at this week’s PLANSPONSOR 360 event. Commonwealth’s Megan Wong was in attendance and it was an opportunity to hear speaker Dan Houston, CEO of Principal Financial Group, encourage plan advisers to step up retirement readiness with participants, not just with those who are high net worth. Assistant Secretary of Labor Lisa Gomez also spoke to the value of having access to liquid savings as part of retirement. Having access to short-term liquidity is fundamental to long-term retirement savings success. It was also great for Megan to see  Kathleen Kelly, CRPS, AIFA from Compass Financial Partners at the event who recently partnered with Nick Maynard on an op-ed. As part of Commonwealth’s work with BlackRock’s Emergency Savings Initiative, we support RPAs as a critical link in broadening access to emergency savings products. The Ascensus and Newport teams just wrapped up a great week at #PLANADVISER360.
