Stem Cell Therapy Repairs Damaged Corneas and Improves Sight 👀 🔬 Researchers at Mass. Eye and Ear have developed a promising stem cell therapy for severe corneal injuries that were previously untreatable. In a Phase I/II clinical trial, the innovative procedure, involving the transplantation of stem cells harvested from the patient's healthy eye, successfully restored the surface of damaged corneas in 92% of patients, with 77% achieving full restoration. All participants experienced improvements in visual acuity. 👏 This autologous limbal epithelial cell (CALEC) transplant offers hope for those suffering from limbal stem cell deficiency and could potentially become a new standard of care. This marks the first successful application of cell therapy of its kind in the U.S. for corneal blindness. Kudos to Ula V. Jurkunas and the entire team for this significant advancement! #stemcelltherapy #regenerativemedicine #ophthalmology #cornea #vision #healthcare #innovation #research #masseyeandear

🎓🔬A new analysis reveals a critical perspective on the state of American research universities, suggesting that many institutions may struggle to remain competitive amid shifting federal spending priorities and a shrinking pool of students. Instead of relying on simplistic "ranking" systems, a framework was proposed that incorporates the diverse goals, student populations, and financial models that shape these vital institutions. This approach paints a clearer picture of the strengths and weaknesses within the U.S. research enterprise. The big question: Can the U.S. afford to let the number of research universities dramatically shrink? This article prompts a conversation about the future of research and development in the United States. Read more about this new method for comparing research universities and assessing the health of the research enterprise. #HigherEducation #ResearchUniversities #Innovation #STEM #EducationPolicy #FutureofResearch #EconomicGrowth #Science #Technology #Academia

🎉 Thank you to Hannah Green of Boston Business Journal for sharing the thrilling announcement of Cellino's first autonomous iPSC Foundry at Massachusetts General Hospital, in collaboration with the amazing team at Mass General Brigham's Cell and Gene Therapy Institute! 💡 Why does this matter? Today, autologous cell and tissue therapies aren’t scalable for large populations, largely because manufacturing bottlenecks have held the industry back. But Cellino’s optical bioprocess changes the game. With our scientists in the loop, not in the lab, we’re making personalized regenerative medicine more scalable, affordable, and accessible. This is the future of healthcare, and it starts today! 📢 Read the exclusive interview with our CEO & Co-Founder Nabiha Saklayen at https://lnkd.in/ewm8ZvtH #RegenerativeMedicine #Biomanufacturing #AI #CellTherapies #PatientAccess #YourCellsYourCure

🎉 Thrilled to see Cellino, the winner from our Advanced Research Projects Agency for Health (ARPA-H) Dash, take another giant leap forward! Cellino is officially launching the U.S.'s first Nebula-Powered iPSC Foundry for scalable autologous biomanufacturing at Massachusetts General Hospital. This collaboration with Mass General Brigham's Gene and Cell Therapy Institute Institute marks a step towards decentralized, patient-specific cell therapy production. Why this matters: 1️⃣ The on-site facility produces high-quality, patient-specific stem cells, reducing costs and accelerating treatment timelines. 2️⃣ This model could make personalized cell therapies accessible to millions of patients. 3️⃣ The Foundry's first focus is on a novel Parkinson's therapy using patient-specific iPSCs. Cellino's AI-driven Nebula technology is set to transform traditional centralized manufacturing into a faster, cost-effective, and patient-centric model. This is exactly the kind of groundbreaking innovation we were excited to support during the Dash. Congratulations to the entire Cellino team! #ARPAHDash #Polyplexus #Cellino #iPSC #Biomanufacturing #Innovation #RegenerativeMedicine #Autologous
