Presbyterian Santa Fe Medical Center (SFMC) has recently acquired a da Vinci XI, an advanced and integrated robot used for minimally invasive surgery, and has started offering robotic-assisted procedures. The da Vinci robotic surgical system has been used in other areas of the organization for more than a decade and is an advancement in minimally invasive surgery techniques. Patients typically have less pain after surgery, as well as a shorter amount of time in the hospital, allowing them to resume normal daily activities more quickly. “We are very excited to have the da Vinci robot at SFMC and to provide excellent tools to care for the community in Santa Fe and Northern New Mexico," said Dr. Thao Marquez, surgery medical director, Presbyterian Santa Fe Medical Center. “Use of the robot offers many benefits to help optimize patient care and outcomes, and we are excited to offer this innovative technology to our patients." Specialties that will use this new system include colorectal surgery, general surgery and urogynecology, with plans to add additional specialties like urology in 2025.

  • Allyson is a pediatric chronic care patient. She needs frequent medical oversight and sometimes has to travel out-of-state to see a specialist. The Richard and Linda Barr Pediatric Chronic Care Clinic serves children and adults with diseases and conditions that may last a lifetime right here in New Mexico.   The small clinic team supports more than 800 patients and families from throughout the state. The clinic provides intensive care coordination and urgent care-level services, as well as assistance connecting with resources to address socioeconomic issues.   Philanthropy provides vital support for patients and families. Thanks to our donors, the clinic’s patient assistance fund covers urgent basic needs, including utilities, transportation, food and durable medical equipment not covered by insurance. The fund also pays for items that bring joy to patients, such as a stuffed animal with a G-tube, and small gifts for birthdays and treatment milestones. In the past year, the fund also helped to purchase specialized equipment for hearing exams.
