Rural Social Enterprise Hub (RuralSEHub)
Civic and Social Organizations
The focal point for research and development activity on rural social enterprises in Scotland, Europe and further afield
About us
The Rural Social Enterprise Hub, supported by the Scottish Government since its launch in August 2019, is a cornerstone of Scotland's rural social enterprise ecosystem. Covering 98% of the country's land area but housing only 17% of its population, rural Scotland is home to a remarkable 39% of all social enterprises, showcasing a deep commitment to community-driven solutions. Our hub serves as a nexus for rural social entrepreneurs, facilitating peer-to-peer learning, knowledge exchange, and networking opportunities locally and globally. Through our digital platform, we provide access to resources, case studies, and events, fostering collaboration and resilience. We aim to deepen understanding of rural social enterprise dynamics and advocate for supportive policies that empower rural communities. Over the past 4 ½ years, we've demonstrated the vital role of social enterprises in sustaining rural vibrancy and addressing market failures. As we continue to grow, our focus remains on driving positive change and fostering inclusive prosperity across Scotland's rural landscape.

Congratulations to The Isle of Gigha Heritage Trust for winning the Social Enterprise of The Year 2024 award. This is a great example how small communities can achieve an extraordinary transformation with the power of collaboration and resilience to create lasting impact. "We are aware of the amazing work social enterprises do; therefore, we are honoured to have received this award. Social enterprises do amazing work, particularly in rural communities where they are often providing crucial services that would otherwise be unavailable. The importance of a community is magnified in remote and rural settings, and it is heartening to see the work of social enterprises in this sector recognised at a national level.” - says Jane Miller, the Development Manager of IGHT. As part of the Social Enterprise Summit 2024, Social Enterprise Scotland are running a number of other events that you can take part in. 🔸 Community Learning Exchanges: SES are offering three learning exchanges that can cover travel and accommodation costs. This is especially helpful for social enterprises with limited budgets and/or those coming from further afield, ensuring they can attend both the learning exchange and the conference on November 7th. The deadline for applying has been pushed back to the 12th of October. The registration links can be found below. 🔸 Free EDI Session on November 8th: There is no charge to attend the EDI session on the 8th, so we hope this will make it easier for everyone to join. Social Enterprise Scotland (SES) are committed to making the events over the three days as accessible as possible. While a small fee applies for conference tickets on November 7th (to help cover essential costs), we have taken steps to support attendees who may face financial barriers: 6th November - Community Learning Exchanges - Social Enterprise Scotland https://lnkd.in/engdtjEZ 7th November Social Enterprise Summit Scotland 2024 - Social Enterprise Scotland https://lnkd.in/eSTMkdbK 8th November Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion – Social Enterprise Celebration and Showcase - Social Enterprise Scotland https://lnkd.in/eWVicZdF Feel free to share this opportunity with your networks ☺️.
