🌍 According to the International Labour Organization, 20% of people in forced labor exploitation are trapped in debt bondage. That’s why so many brands, INGOs, trade associations, and more are committing to the Employer Pays Principle by eliminating recruitment fees for job seekers—a practice that has been repeatedly linked to debt bondage and exploitation. I had an incredible time teaming up with Veronica Ospina, Clare Fitton, and Nancy Phan to co-facilitate a session and dive deeper into the Employer Pays Principle and its relevance to the new SMETA 7 methodology. Sedex consulted with professionals and organizations like Stronger Together to elevate and enhance its audit methodology to align with the evolving needs of the industry. Outside of this specific session, it was inspiring to see how many human rights and sustainability professionals are leveraging Sedex technology to integrate human rights principles into their operations and supply chains. 🌱 With partnerships spanning more than 85,000 businesses globally, Sedex’s reach is truly remarkable! I was grateful for the opportunity to connect with industry leaders like ADM, McDonald's, Kellanova, Mars, and United Sports Brands to discuss challenges and explore solutions. 💼🔍 It was a pleasure connecting and learning from so many of you, including (but not limited to): Grace Valdevitt Orozco Clara Gibbs Emily Armstrong Sara Singh Molly Magerman Conrad Jacobs Gédéon Jaboin Carrie Cowdrey Pritesh Chauhan Sam Dubin Looking forward to the next conference and to continuing these important conversations! #XploreNA #SupplyChainSustainability #HumanRights #Sustainability #BusinessAndHumanRights #EmployerPaysPrinciple

Today, 30th July, marks World Day Against Trafficking in Persons. On this 10th annual global awareness day, the theme for this year is ‘leave no child behind’. According to the United Nations, one in three victims of human trafficking is a child. They also express that: ‘There is an urgent need to take comprehensive measures to protect vulnerable groups and help child victims. This requires joint efforts at national and international level. States must prioritize the protection of children, strengthen laws, improve law enforcement and provide more resources to combat child trafficking.’ (You read the whole article here: https://loom.ly/AmiQPe4) To support and equip businesses with practical first steps to address child labour risks in their operations and supply chains, Stronger Together US has developed a new workshop ‘No Child Labor’. An insightful final panel session on the 2nd day of #GFRR2024. Moderated by David Camp and with contributions from fantastic speakers Goretti Calvo (AgSocio), Pranay Rai (International Manpower Recruitment) and Veronica Ospina (Stronger Together), the session focussed on revealing insights on levers for change from those working directly in recruitment. Key reflections included: ✅ Commitment to responsible recruitment is starting to trickle down the supply chain, but continued collaboration across the value chain and with government and wider stakeholders is critical for advancing progress ✅ The supply and demand of responsible recruitment needs to be a loop in order to be sustainable; when labour recruiters/providers invest in responsible recruitment to achieve market differentiation, this needs to lead to market recognition so that it will catalyse a wider industry take-up ✅ Professionalisation and education is essential for improving capability across the recruitment industry. This leads to the mitigation of risks for both businesses and workers. For more information on AAALP contact usainfo@stronger2gether.org #responsiblerecruitment
