About us

The Turkish-German Energy Partnership strengthens ties between Germany and Türkiye to support the energy transition and to tackle climate change. Renewable energy, energy efficiency, flexibility and the development of energy markets are crucial to reducing greenhouse gas emissions. We provide a forum for the exchange of knowledge between policymakers, businesses, science and civil society where stakeholders and ideas for the transformation of the energy system come together. Goals of the Turkish-German Energy Partnership The Turkish-German Energy Partnership • Intensifies the collaboration between Germany and Türkiye through the exchange of experience and by initiating specific pilot projects • Supports bilateral collaboration with three working groups and a task force responsible for implementing measures • Communicates the goals of a low-carbon energy transition • Encourages the networking of German and Turkish businesses, scientific institutions and civil society • Collaborates with institutions, associations and businesses in the working groups • Supports bilateral meetings between representatives from both countries

  • 𝗪𝗼𝗺𝗲𝗻 𝗶𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗘𝗻𝗲𝗿𝗴𝘆 𝗧𝗿𝗮𝗻𝘀𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻: 𝗔 𝗠𝗼𝗿𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗼𝗳 𝗜𝗻𝘀𝗽𝗶𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗮𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗧𝘂𝗿𝗸𝗶𝘀𝗵-𝗚𝗲𝗿𝗺𝗮𝗻 𝗘𝗻𝗲𝗿𝗴𝘆 𝗙𝗼𝗿𝘂𝗺 The 6th Turkish-German Energy Forum kicked off with an impactful 𝗪𝗼𝗺𝗲𝗻 𝗶𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗘𝗻𝗲𝗿𝗴𝘆 𝗧𝗿𝗮𝗻𝘀𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 breakfast session, uniting leaders and advocates to emphasise the role of gender equality in achieving a sustainable energy future. Moderated by @𝗞𝗿𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗮 𝗛𝗮𝘃𝗲𝗿𝗸𝗮𝗺𝗽, CEO of the German Energy Agency (dena), the session opened with a call for diversity as a driver of innovation and climate action. Beatrix Massig (Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action) underlined Germany’s commitment to embedding inclusivity into global energy strategies. A panel of inspiring speakers shared their journeys, challenges, and visions: • Ebru ARICI (Türkiye Rüzgar Enerjisi Birliği (TÜREB) Turkish Wind Energy Association) highlighted her leadership in a male-dominated field and her advocacy with the Green Collar Women Association. • Pınar Ersoy (DZ BANK AG Türkiye) discussed breaking barriers and fostering inclusivity through initiatives at Alman-Türk Ticaret ve Sanayi OdasıNadia Dr. Horstmann (Bundesnetzagentur) shared survey findings on workplace equity and systemic changes needed for progress. Sedef Budak (she/her) Budak (Green Collar Women Association) presented compelling research on women’s employment in Türkiye’s energy sector, offering data-driven insights and actionable solutions. Interactive breakout discussions explored two key questions: 𝟭. 𝗛𝗼𝘄 𝗰𝗮𝗻 𝘄𝗲 𝗯𝗲𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝗮𝘁𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗰𝘁 𝘄𝗼𝗺𝗲𝗻 𝘁𝗼 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸 𝗶𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗲𝗻𝗲𝗿𝗴𝘆 𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗻𝘀𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻? 𝟮. 𝗛𝗼𝘄 𝗰𝗮𝗻 𝘄𝗲 𝗲𝗺𝗽𝗼𝘄𝗲𝗿 𝘄𝗼𝗺𝗲𝗻 𝗶𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘀𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗼𝗿 𝘁𝗼 𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗰𝗵 𝗹𝗲𝗮𝗱𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗵𝗶𝗽 𝗿𝗼𝗹𝗲𝘀? Participants brainstormed strategies like mentorship programs, policy interventions, and supportive networks, with ideas reflecting diverse perspectives from Türkiye, Germany, and beyond. The session concluded with networking and a resounding message from Ms. Haverkamp: empowering women is not just a matter of equity—it’s essential for building a sustainable energy future. Together, we can drive meaningful change in the energy transition.   • The 6th Turkish-German Energy Forum in Berlin provided a significant platform for advancing energy cooperation between Türkiye and Germany. Several working group meetings, workshops, and a site visit to Siemens Energy helped deepen collaboration and address key energy challenges faced by both countries. 𝗪𝗼𝗿𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗚𝗿𝗼𝘂𝗽 𝗛𝗶𝗴𝗵𝗹𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁𝘀: The 𝗪𝗼𝗿𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗚𝗿𝗼𝘂𝗽 𝗼𝗻 𝗥𝗲𝗻𝗲𝘄𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗲 𝗘𝗻𝗲𝗿𝗴𝘆, 𝗘𝗻𝗲𝗿𝗴𝘆 𝗜𝗻𝗳𝗿𝗮𝘀𝘁𝗿𝘂𝗰𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲, 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗦𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗼𝗿 𝗖𝗼𝘂𝗽𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗴 focused on recent developments in energy markets, discussing renewable energy trends, grid modernisation, and digitalisation. The Working Groupalso explored future initiatives in geothermal energy, solar thermal energy, and distribution grid improvements. The 𝗪𝗼𝗿𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗚𝗿𝗼𝘂𝗽 𝗼𝗻 𝗘𝗻𝗲𝗿𝗴𝘆 𝗘𝗳𝗳𝗶𝗰𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗰𝘆 concentrated on the status of energy performance contracting (EPC) in Türkiye, with particular attention to financing and insurance of EPC projects. The group is also planning to promote ESCO market development and efficient energy solutions in the coming years. The 𝗧𝗮𝘀𝗸 𝗙𝗼𝗿𝗰𝗲 𝗼𝗻 𝗚𝗿𝗲𝗲𝗻 𝗛𝘆𝗱𝗿𝗼𝗴𝗲𝗻 met to explore strategic collaboration between the two countries, focusing on green hydrogen as a key solution for decarbonizing hard-to-abate sectors. Türkiye's ambitious renewable energy goals align well with Germany’s green hydrogen import strategy, creating opportunities for long-term bilateral cooperation. The 𝗦𝗶𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘀 𝗘𝗻𝗲𝗿𝗴𝘆 𝘀𝗶𝘁𝗲 𝘃𝗶𝘀𝗶𝘁 showcased innovations in electrolyser production, providing insights into Siemens’ advancements in hydrogen technology. The tour highlighted Europe’s progress in hydrogen technologies, especially in megawatt-scale projects. The 𝗗𝗦𝗢 𝗪𝗼𝗿𝗸𝘀𝗵𝗼𝗽 on digitalising distribution networks brought Turkish and German stakeholders together to discuss the role of digital infrastructure in modernising energy grids. Key topics included AI-driven network optimisation, predictive analytics, and smart meter rollouts to support the integration of decentralised renewable energy and electric vehicles. 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗙𝗼𝗿𝘂𝗺 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗣𝗮𝗻𝗲𝗹 𝗗𝗶𝘀𝗰𝘂𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻: The 6th Turkish-German Energy Forum culminated with a panel discussion that brought together co-chairs of the working groups and task force and provided a comprehensive overview of the partnership's achievements and future direction. Panelists reflected on the successful outcomes of the partnership, including knowledge exchanges on geothermal and hydrogen technologies, energy efficiency contracting, and regulatory improvements. The forum’s inaugural panel, “Bridging the Investment Gap in Germany and Türkiye – Financial Instruments for the Green Transition”, examined strategies for mobilising the significant capital required for decarbonisation, emphasising public-private partnerships and regulatory improvements to meet ambitious targets. Minister Habeck emphasised the strategic importance of bilateral energy collaboration, particularly in the areas of renewables and green hydrogen. Minister Bayraktar outlined Türkiye's ambitious $100 billion renewable energy investment plan and invited German investors to contribute to a significant expansion of wind and solar capacity. Featuring a keynote and a panel of key stakeholders, this event will focus on collaboration opportunities and market trends in the energy sector, concluding with a networking reception.
