🚀 There’s no “city of tomorrow” without ambitious visions and bold actions!
The UITP Africa & MENA Conference 2024 in Casablanca brought over 150 delegates to share knowledge, best practices and ideas. The message was clear: transforming public transport is a collaborative effort and it goes beyond the transport sector. We cannot work alone! 🤝
Key takeaways:
🚌 BRT turns 50 years old! From its origins in Curitiba to systems in over 200 cities, BRT is more than articulated buses. Integration with other modes, like in Casablanca, Dakar, and South Africa, is essential to attract citizens to public transport.
🌍 Across North Africa, the Middle East, and sub-Saharan Africa, public authorities, operators, and governments are focused on creating modern, inclusive, and sustainable mobility solutions.
📈 A robust funding system is crucial for sustainable growth. Dedicated funds with strong governance ensure continuous investment in public transport, driving economic growth, job creation and increasing land value - because public transport benefits all!
🏆 Jelloul Samsseme, Wali and Director General of Local Authorities of the Kingdom of Morroco, accepted our award of special recognition.
✍️ UITP and African Association of Urban Mobility Authorities - AUMA signed an MoU to foster collaboration in the region.
A huge thank you to all participants for your insights, energy, and dedication. As we heard in the morning: “Viva public transport, viva!”
Thank you, Casablanca! 🇲🇦
