Empowerment,” - Belen Sanz Luque, Regional Director, UN Women Europe and Central Asia This powerful message captured the spirit of the High-Level Meeting on “Five Years to the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development: Central Asia Perspectives on the 30th Anniversary of the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action and the Achievement of SDG 5”, co-hosted by Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Kazakhstan in Astana. Over 70 high-level leaders, government officials, civil society representatives, and international partners from Central Asia gathered ahead of the 69th session of the Commission on the Status of Women (CSW69), scheduled for March 2025, to assess progress in the region and chart a path forward for gender equality. ⏩ Key Highlights ✅ Financing Mechanisms: Participants discussed innovative strategies for financing gender equality initiatives, emphasizing the need to attract and support state investments in Central Asian countries. ✅ Regional Collaboration: The discussions reinforced the critical importance of regional cooperation to overcome persistent challenges and ensure that gender equality commitments translate into effective policy and practice. ✅ Roadmap for Action: Participants adopted a joint statement outlining critical actions—including integrating gender-responsive planning and budgeting, driving cultural transformation, empowering marginalized groups, expanding social protection and care economies, strengthening gender data systems, and boosting private sector economic empowerment. Looking ahead, 2025 marks significant global milestones: 30 years since the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action, 25 years since UNSCR 1325, and 15 years since the adoption of the Sustainable Development Goals.
