With XR PORT BERLIN we set ourselves two main goals: to intensify the networking of international producers and curators with our local production studios in order to support future co-development, co-production and distribution. Through B2B meetings, networking events and a studio tour for our international delegation, we showcased the diversity of the XR ecosystem in the capital region. As a partner of republica GmbH, we not only reached new audiences with our XR exhibition, but also received a lot of attention from key politicians from the Senate and the state government. One of the main goals of XRPB was to build a bridge between the international and local XR industry. Despite the limited time, we made the most of it! 💪 After the networking event and taking our delegation to the XR exhibition, THE PORTAL, we took them on a studio tour of Berlin and Brandenburg on the last day. Although we didn't get to visit all the studios, we managed to see quite a few, including Dark Matter, Interactive Media Foundation, Filmtank, Mimic Productions and Volucap. There's a lot more to explore and we hope to continue in the future! Unfortunately, we weren't able to visit Nadine Kolodziey's studio and many other places on the Berlin and Brandenburg map. We gathered all the exhibitors, the producer delegation, and international guests in the republica space for the second day of the event. We've just finished the first day of XR PORT BERLIN and THE PORTAL, and what an incredible start! As the republica GmbH began, we opened the doors to the XR exhibition, THE PORTAL. The opening was attended by Senator Franziska Giffey and the Governing Mayor of Berlin, Kai Wegner, who had the opportunity to try out some of the immersive pieces on display. After this perfect start to the exhibition, we moved on to the next part of the event, XR PORT BERLIN, which focuses on networking between the international delegation and the local Berlin and Brandenburg producers. We visited Berlin Partner für Wirtschaft und Technologie GmbH to start with a welcome word from representatives of IONDA GmbH, Medienboard Berlin-Brandenburg GmbH, and Berlin Partner, followed by a meet and greet with the guests to introduce their work and begin networking. In the afternoon, a boat trip took us to the Summer Bash, medianet berlinbrandenburg e.V. event for the rest of the evening. But that was not the end of the day's events: during the trip, the jury - consisting of Myriam Achard (Phi Center Montréal), Diliana Alexander (Art Gate Miami), and Liz Rosenthal (Venice Immersive) - awarded one of the projects brought to the event, "Living With The Snow Leopards" (WT) by Berlin-based studio NowHere Media Media. The final experience in XR PORTAL is Novum 2024, an augmented reality application created by Nadine Kolodziey on Scenery. Novum 2024 offers a glimpse into a parallel digital world. This augmented reality landscape can be explored playfully and interactively. At the heart of the work is the question of how digital narratives change our perception of temporality. The artist Nadine Kolodziey works both in the real and the virtual, fusing old and new design techniques. Selina is a single-player narrative VR adventure that allows players to step into the mind of an imaginative little girl who is haunted by inner "shadows" and dark dows" and dark thoughts. She seeks refuge in stories and imaginary worlds. But she is pursued by an old friend, now turned enemy. With the help of the player, the protagonist learns to overcome the difficulties of a life disrupted by dark thoughts and past traumas. Selina is the setting for VR gameplay, where players break the rules of the real world to solve puzzles and complete action challenges. Running along walls and ceilings, they change the direction of gravity and explore the labyrinths of Selina's mind to gradually uncover her past. "MYRIAD. Where we connect." is an international cross-media project about animal migration at the intersection of art, science and storytelling. THE PORTAL features both a 360° 3D documentary and a VR piece. In VR we follow the migrations of a green sea turtle, an arctic fox and a group of northern bald ibises. Each journey combines scientific knowledge with video and visual information about the animals' journeys through a world increasingly influenced by human activity. These stories show us the interconnectedness of our world and call for global responsibility in our shared world and a reconnection and reorientation with our natural environment. Another component of the project, a 360° documentary, allows us to experience a successful reintegration project first hand: on board an ultra-light aircraft, you can join a flock of bald ibises as they fly over the Alps. MYRIAD is a project of the Interactive Media Foundation and Filmtank, in co-creation with Miiqo Studios, Context Films and Artificial Rome.
