Man's 'nose bitten off' after fight breaks out at golf club dinner
Merseyside Police confirmed one of two victims "suffered a life changing injury" and a man was arrested as part of the investigation
A man's nose was reportedly bitten off after a fight broke out at a Wirral golf club. Merseyside Police confirmed officers were called to Leasowe Golf Course in the early hours of Sunday morning (November 17).
A spokesperson for the force told the ECHO officers arrived at the golf course, on Leasowe Road, at around 1.10am following reports of two men being assaulted. The force confirmed two men in their 60s sustained injuries - one of which was a serious facial injury.
The ECHO has heard claims from an eyewitness that one of the men's "nose was bitten off". When asked about this, Merseyside Police said the man "suffered a life changing injury" during the assault.
A person who contacted the ECHO said the fight broke out at a dinner. They said: "There was a gentlemen's dinner here at the weekend which had trouble and someone's nose was bitten off."
Merseyside Police said following enquiries a 45-year-old man from Meols was arrested on suspicion of section 18 assault with intent and section 39 assault. He has been conditionally bailed pending further investigation.
Merseyside Police Detective Inspector Phil Ryan said: "This incident will have undoubtedly been shocking to see and we are keen to speak to any witnesses who have yet to come forward. One of the victims suffered a life-changing injury and I am sure that anyone who was at the event will share our disgust and our determination in fully investigating what happened.
"If you saw or captured on any devices the incident itself or anything suspicious prior, let us know. A man is now under investigation but enquiries continue, so tell us what you know and we will take action."
Leasowe Golf Club declined to comment when approached by the ECHO.
