Police helicopter spots man being attacked in street
The man was taken to hospital for a serious head injury
A police helicopter flying over Anfield before a match spotted a man being attacked. At around 6pm on Sunday, December 1, the National Police Air Service (NPAS) was over Anfield before the Liverpool vs Man City match.
As they were flying, officers spotted a man being assaulted on Arkles Lane in Anfield. Officers went to the scene to check on the 54-year-old man to ensure he got medical attention.
The man attended hospital for treatment for a serious head injury. Merseyside Police is now appealing to anyone who may have witnessed the assault or have any information to come forward.
Operational football officer Robert Jones said: “The victim, a 54-year-old man, was shocked and injured. We are urging anyone with information on this crime to help us with our enquiries. The incident took place in a busy area when there would have been other fans present, who may have seen the assault take place.
"If you were in the Arkles Lane, Anfield area at that time and witnessed the assault then please get in touch.” Police are asking residents and visitors for any CCTV, smart doorbell or dashcam footage on Sunday, December 1 around Arkles Lane/Priory Road that can assist them to get in touch.
