With a 19-year career and 41 years of age, Aaron Rodgers is the oldest active player in the NFL. Although this is a cause for respect, it also has its downside, as it often makes him the target of all kinds of jokes regarding his age, as revealed by the quarterback himself.

Rodgers began his professional career in 2005 with the Green Bay Packers, with whom he played 18 seasons before signing in 2023 with the New York Jets. Although the veteran continues to play at the highest level, his most recent two years have been tougher than expected.

In 2023, an injury kept him from playing the entire season, while in 2024, several persistent injuries and a slump in his play intensified the debate regarding his age. Off the field, it's not easy either, although Rodgers tries to take it with humor, comments and "jokes" about his age are more frequent than he would like.

Where was Aaron in 1991?

In a newly released Netflix docuseries, the Jets signal-caller recalled an unusual conversation with Willie Randolph. In an elevator encounter, the former MLB executive asked Rodgers, "Were you in Green Bay in 1991?" to which the quarterback humorously replied, "No, I was not. I was 7 in '91 for most of the year, but thank you."

The Super Bowl XLV champion revealed that it is common for people to confuse him with players from past decades. In similar conversations, he explained, he has been asked if he played with legends like Steve Young or John Elway, who retired in 1999 and 1998, respectively.

Rodgers seems relatively comfortable with being the punchline of elderly jokes. In fact, he is also aware that he has played longer than most of his contemporaries, "But never in 1991."

Aaron Rodgers, an unsolved "Enigma"

The "Enigma" docuseries delves into Rodgers' life, exploring his playing career and lesser-known facets of his life. Among these, his controversial use of ayahuasca as an aid in his spiritual awakening, and the estrangement from his family.

Religion of Sports, Skydance Sports, and NFL Films produced the documentary, which is available on Netflix starting this week. Beyond the senior citizen jokes, the series is a journey into the life of one of the most polarizing names in the NFL.
